Does facebook have any functionality that would make it useful in relation to the stuff we do here?
From what I understand FB has become a grey area between real life and online life. Since most of us here don't interract directly except for rare occasions, I'm not sure it would be of much more use than SF.

Yeah you have a point, and it seems most people including me, may join but then dont see it as being that useful. So I guess I wont start it but if anyone else does, then just post a link here.

What we should look into is a temporary replacement for chat, especially since PCGUY hasn't said how long it'll be until it's back up in one form or another. I wouldn't be surprised if it's going to be a while, since that's probably not too much of a priority (it wouldn't be mine).

We should but it would be a pain to log into another website to chat not knowing if someone would be on, thats where facebook would come in handy and a group would be great.

On the face of it, there would be no technical benefit, however putting faces and lifestyles to names would most likely help spudfiles to grow as a social community.

As already mentioned however, for many members including myself the manufacture and use of projectile launchers is at best a grey area in legal terms or at worst specifically outlawed, meaning that linking this interest with their family, friends and colleagues is not desirable.

does anyone play wow?, you can down load a program called ventrilo that you can talk to each other with mics or use the chat function it has.

I do NOT play WoW, but I do have Ventrilio and am part of a guild that maintains a server for use by members in LOTRO (which I do play), Rift, DCUO, SWTOR, etc.

As I understand it, Ventrilio servers can be expensive and are usually funded by donations from users. This may or may not be a viable option.

You could use skype. It's free and you can group chat with it in voice and text.

IIRC Spudfiles 8 is supposed to include chat function, according to PCGUY.

However, in the meantime, an AIM list would work well.

Skype would work I guess but Id prefer AIM as have an account thats been dead for years.
