Thanks for the link. It was broken, but I was able to locate the instructions from your input.
First shot with copper cannon.
Projectile is a nylon cylinder 7 grams, 651fps, 120psi chamber.
The delay and aim are off, but better shots await.

Have you ever tried using multiple projectiles, shotgun style?

Modeling clay. Same projectile, same speeds as the apple.
The ball was about 3.5 inches in diameter. For scale, the PVC post holding the targets is 1 inch wide.
Still not great pictures, but I am still trying to figure out whats going on. Unsurprisingly, the blunt projectile is transferring a crapload of energy to the target.
I still want to use a marble, but have not figured out the best way. Sabots tend to end up in the picture and screw things up.
We shall see.

The flash I am using is fast.
A normal commercial flash like a Nikon or Canon is about 30 usec at lowest power.
The flash I cobbled together ( a copy of Harold Edgertons design) is 1 usec.
The nylon slug moves about .01" during that time, pretty near to blur free.

I will take a picture when I get a chance. The cannon is nothing special. I did not take any time to make it look nice as I want it only to take pictures.

Very beautiful pictures!
Just curious, how are you triggering the flash unit? Some type of momentary switch on the target (a guy named plasticex009 used this method a very long time ago)?

Brilliant!
Some sort of shallow bolts or similar constriction in the muzzle could be sufficient to just slow the sabot enough that it would be out of shot.Sabots tend to end up in the picture and screw things up.
