You'd have to have a very powerful/large gun because Duracell batteries are so heavy. YOu could probably get close, but not break it, at least i think so.

Steel? certainly, in small sizes (such as a battery) but the C:B ratio would be rediculous, the barrel would more than likely be made of a couple 20' sections of pipe, and thats coming out of a hyrbid with a chamber volume of at least 100 CI...

~EDIT~ Heh, looks like you squeezed in just before I posted Drac. Like I described above, it is possible. That being said, it would be a waste of time, unless you have lots of money, time, space to do it (it would really really long), and are easily entertained.

just add nitrous oxide,a oxidizer, and up the speeds even further

u cant use fuel that powerful in plastic cannons, their combustion expands to fast and usually causes the chamber to explode. theres a fancy three letter thing like DTT of DTD or something that explains this.

I'm not positive how long you have been on these forums, but adding a seperate oxidizing agent apart from normal atmospheric Oxygen is a big no-no in the spudding world, unless you have a steel chamber of sufficient strength to handle the detonation of the oxy/fuel mixture. Just so you are in-the-know.

the term is DDT, which stands for Deflageration to Detonation Transition, it means the flame front (the speed that the fuel burns) is traveling beyond the speed of sound, and causes immense shock to any material it is contained in.

schmanman, it might be safer to just use a 6x mix or something, for the reason the previous 2 users have explained. And of course, such a mix would basicaly require one to use a steel chamber, as the pressures would be rather enormus... a 4x mix is already stretching the limmets of what is possible with plastic pipe.

Yeah, thats what I was thinking.use a steel chamber,no risk of bursting there. And Spudinator ,At the time,I had been a member of spudfiles for one or two days, just to let you know :D

But that would be pretty amazing what you could achive with n.o.z!

I have some ping pong balls in my room right now (I use them for making smoke bombs since they burn up nicely, they are partially nitrocellulose) and they measure probably about 1 inch in diameter.
