Carlton wasn't much cheaper at these bottle shops we went to in the city (we have liquor stores in Auckland's CBD that don't over charge so we assume its the same in Sydney haha). Even $40AUD for 24 (Aussie) beers isn't great, once a week one of the big exported beers like Corona or Peroni are $20NZD for 12 at the supermarket, couple of bucks cheaper for Kiwi stuff.

Ended up drinking my fair share in the form of tap beer but I'd usually go for the Pure Blonde if they had it as it wasn't much more expensive than the Carlton. Pretty much all the jugs I consumed were Carlton as the hostel bar only did the $7.50 jugs for Carlton Draught :D

Best beer I had over there was at a craft pub called Harts, they had $5 schooners which was the cheapest we saw.

I personally don't have a problem with Corona if I ever drink it, it's a decent % and tastes alright. Strictly for consumption in summer though, otherwise I go the way of the Oranjeboom bottled beer haha.

In more relevant ramblings; New Years in Sydney was pretty good thanks to a drunk crowd of people who overpowered the guards down by the waterfront, forcing the gate open and causing a stampede allowing everyone to get in the closed off areas for a good view of the harbour fireworks.

yeah that's why i hate going to clubs 9.50 for a Corona are you crazy and they don't even give you a lemon the cheap asses.

I prefer Canadian club and coke anyway.
