wait a second could you make a legal "ballistic knife" if the "knife" was bladed grappling hook?

Federal Law wrote:(a) Prohibition and penalties for possession, manufacture, sale, or importation
Whoever in or affecting interstate commerce, within any Territory or possession of the United States, within Indian country (as defined in section 1151 of title 18), or within the special maritime and territorial jurisdiction of the United States (as defined in section 7 of title 18), knowingly possesses, manufactures, sells, or imports a ballistic knife shall be fined as provided in title 18, or imprisoned not more than ten years, or both.
but...
(d) “Ballistic knife” defined
As used in this section, the term “ballistic knife” means a knife with a detachable blade that is propelled by a spring-operated mechanism.
Hmmm...
You know how the Spetsnaz are famed for sharpening their shovels and used them as thrown weapons...
Not too expensive...
Hmmm... ballistic entrenching tool?

The copy I've used is rather flimsy; the pivot between the handle and shovel is loose, and the nut that tightens it is, IIRC, plastic.

"i did it for my ballistix knife at 250 psi near impossible to open."
I used a quick connect on the mk II grapple launcher and I could trigger it with one hand.
I believe you can legally buy a ballistic "knife" (grapple hook instead of the blade) but their hard to find and their not cheap.
Sorry for being dormant, I've been working my but off for minimium wage at a local coffee shop. That being said I made a new friend who just happens to own a fab shop

anyways he got me some 1/2" Al pipe and is going to make the chamber for me; the best part is that he's going to make me two for $20 including materials
Unfortunately I'm working the next 8 of 9 days so I won't have much build time but hopefully il be able to dry fit everything.

okay okay, today I realized I must make myself a mini grappling hook too, I can use the CNC mills and scrap metal at my summer job to make this too easy to not try. however I can't find kevlar cable, where can I find flexible rope as thin as paracord that can support at least 500lbs?

^You can pick up some thin spectra rope(which has similar properties) on ebay fairly cheap. Kevlar and carbon fiber tow are not too expensive either. Kevlar's a little stronger by weight.
If you can't find it online, try to ask around with anyone who does anything sailing or rock-climbing related. They'll probably know where to find it locally.
Or maybe the archery guys... "Fastflight" is a string material that's pretty high-strength, though I can't remember what it's made from.

5000 lb test Expensive, but actually rated for rapelling.
Cheaper, but not rated and weaker.[/url]
