I'm sorry but it's just purely idiotic. The guy just wants to lose his job. The minute a student will be pist at him or be slightly injured, they will tell their parents :mommy a teacher at school shoots spuds at us... here goes its jobs... but I don't care if he doesn't care

I'm sure that the kids have been asked to notify their parents and someone like the principal knows what they are doing, and if a kid manages to hurt himself during this I really don't feel sorry for him.

If a kid manages to hurt himself you don't feel sorry for him? Maybe you'll be sorry for the teacher?

And I highly doubt parents were notified their kids will catch potatoes shot from a potatogun.

Except a potato gun isn't a firearm dumbass. He isn't shooting at people he is shooting it in the air, and it probably loses most of its power as soon as it starts coming down, as soon as it starts to go down its no more different than throwing a potato and catching it.

I agree, shooting them up an catching them is perfectly safe (well no more dangerous then baseball) BUT there is a problem. A kid goes home and sais 'damn, I was hit by a baseball' the parents would think nothing of it. Put the word 'gun' in the sentance and people perceive it a lot differently. ie 'damn, the teacher was shooting a spudgun for us and I got hit'

The problem is that most people automatically react differently if certain words are involved. Words like 'gun, explosion, fire, explosive and firework'

Yes, there is a difference- potato launcher are safer. A potato gun is only considered a loaded firearm by your ignorant mind. If you really think this is true, then you don't give firearms near the respect they deserve. It is true that there is a potential for being hurt, but saying that this is a foolish or risky practice is the same as saying it would be idiotic for him to throw a baseball as hard as he could for some kids to catch 50 yards down range. this behavior is perfectly acceptable, and is in no way going to lead to a 'bad image' for the hobby. Don't act like a crusader of safety and responsibility- you're not.

I respect your opinion... but I am really disappointed by it.

Dom, I have been doing this for longer than you- that is something I can almost guarantee- I would never do or condone anything that had potential for harming the 'image of the hobby' If dropping a couple grams of sodium into watter is an acceptable teaching stunt, then so is this.

for crying out loud the gun is a baby 3 foot long combustion with a large enough barrel to shoot potatoes big enough to catch, the potatoes are loosing a lot of velocity, if he shot straight forward it probably would even reach the kids in midfield, I bet he has to aim the gun up to just to reach the kids, this is probably as safe if not safer than the teacher throwing baseballs
