You've got it right. 120psi is storing a lot of energy and you're using almost all of it to accelerate the projectile. The last pneumatic you refer to was "wasting" energy making the "whoosh." Good thing it didn't make a "swoosh" or Nike would have sued you.

40psi in a combustion represents a lot less stored energy than 120psi in a pneumatic. Less energy to accelerate projectiles and make noise implies both a less powerful and a quieter gun. Although a really badly designed combustion could end up being all thunder and no lightning. I've done that.

Combustion guns have limits based on the amount of energy the fuel can store. As for the limits on pneumatics; well you can keep pumping until you either overwhelm your compressor, the strength of your materials, or your common sense.

I agree with the answer, and yeah, different fuels definitely have different potential energies. I've pretty much settled on pneumatics for now, I really like the overall simplicity and durability, along with a neverending supply of fuel. Just charge, fire, reload, and fire again!

This weekend I will be dong an upgrade, I've prepared a 3.5" Tee and new, better functioning, (in theory) valve to replace the current 2" Tee and clunky first version valvebody. Which, BTW to anyone interested, the current valve featured in the Appliance video is for sale, it's been outmoded by the new one.

I'll leave it at that before Chaos spanks me silly for hijacking his thread!

well i just shot a golf ball at a piece of metal plate it nearly went though it but the ball blew apart so im looking for new ammo 42mm round bar is lookin pretty good @ tha moment

EDIT: canned butane gas is my fuel atm but am looking at oxy/acetylene metered injection

From what i have heard acetylene if store improperly like in a combustion tanks or such. Will some times go off without warning. I advise you to continue with great caution.
Oh and one more thing I hear mapp is better then acetylene note this is only hear say.

looks nice i think its nice as a combustion but if you filled it to around 400 psi with co2 it would be nicer =)

P.s. you can get a bolt in tire valve from your friendly naberhood car wreaker!! they have to have a few lieing around some where!!
