With paintball rifles (the home-made kind), what kind of range can you get with them? I am considering building one since I have an old 21" sniper barrel I never use. It would be nice to have a homemade paintball rifle with a 300-500 foot range for those guys who think they are well out of range and walk around like nothings going on.

Idk about the guns, sorry. But to Orpackrat, you wont be able to fire 300 to 500 accuratly. Its been said before, a paintball is just not a good projectile and it swerves all over. So you wanna get a gun that is consistant at decent ranges and you are hidden.

Well to be honest, I really couldn't be happier with my Spyder TL-R. Only problem with it is I'm a woodsballs and it's polished aluminum, kinda defeats the purpose of camo. But that's why I'm making a rifle rag for it. And I'm gonna get a rifled barel. 98's are good with mods but my TL-R was pretty darn good right out of the box.

Yea there are a few quirks with it. The feed neck is a little wierd, instead of the hopper sitting in ti, there's a little bridge thing that makes it sit higher. It's clear so I think the purpose is to know how many shots oyu have left. The trigger pull is kind of long so if you're a guy that unloads a hoppers worth of paint at anything that moves, it's not for you. I'm a marksman so two rounds will do for me. It comes with a low-pressure chamber already installed, as such it's pretty efficient. Of course you can still mod it. I know a lady that has a rocking electronic trigger, a custom bolt, two-piece rifled barrel, replaced feed neck, and hpa system. The only stock part left is the frame of the gun itself.

You know Clide's slider design? I copied that and have a working auto loader.

I havent tested it performance wise, I am still looking for a barrel. but it loads and fires paintballs nicely. So I hope I get some decent performance with a barrel.

Do not get a Tippmann model 98, Get a Tippmann 98 Custom, the body of the model 98 is plastic but the body of the 98 Custom is metal and more durable. Tippmann 98 Custom, find a decent one on Ebay, you can usually get one with some mods for around $100 and then you could mod it some more. I currently have 3 Tippmann 98 Customs with various mods and all function without problems with only basic maintenence and a bit of extra oil.
