So you're admitting you no longer need a truck.... great. That's the first step toward recovery from Macho Syndrome. Secondly, 2" of ground clearance is barely any at all. I'm pretty sure most lamborghini's have more than 2" of ground clearance. Lastly, I used to own a neon, and it has about 3-4" of suspension travel. They are horrible at offroading. I do not believe your statements.

If you live in south dakota, and only drive on the highway, your argument would hold some water, but even then the cons of a truck quickly stack up against it (poor safety, mpg, braking, ride, emergency manuvers, etc)

My dad's truck accelerates faster than many cars I have been in, so what. It rides nicer than most japanese cars i've been in, is quieter inside, and doesn't feel like I have a blanket insulating me from the road noise. (Ram 1500 with hemi)

Personally, if I had a big boat to tow, I'd buy a cheap 1980s pickup, and a 1980s honda. Drive the honda when not towing, and only drive the truck when towing.

The never go to college part, working at a factory part, and driving a truck part comprises a considerable portion of my family, and none of them are idiots, inbred, or racists. If you don't like trucks, that's perfectly fine. Just don't go stereotyping everybody who drives one into some backwards sharecropper from the 19^th century.

As to the college remark, back even only twenty years ago, it wasn't as easy to get into college as it was today. Only rich people, or extremely smart people, (think kids on the track to getting a PhD.), got degrees. Indeed, I'm sure a lot of us on the road to a scholarship or on TOPS or some such would not stand a chance of getting a degree back then. My dad never went to college, but is still a Lieutenant in the LA State Police... chosen over plenty of people who did get a college degree. Just because people don't go to college doesn't mean they're stupid. My uncle Melvin's a pretty damn good construction engineer, and knows more about building something that'll stand up to time than your average college dick with a B.S. degree.

Also, as to working in a factory... WTF is your problem? Plenty of people work in factories in America because they want to. I would rather work in a factory if I got out of High School and didn't want to go to college, than end up flying a cash register at some supermarket dealing with people with your mentality all day. If you want a stable paycheck with plenty of hours, that'll keep you alive until you retire... a factory job is best. You are basically putting down a big portion of our population that simply works for a living, when you are, what?, just out of high-school/college?

And owning a Harley or other motorcycle is pretty much a hobby all in itself. It has nothing to do with "machoism" as you put it. If you actually took the time to know a few of the people you see on the interstate in black leather, you would find out that they're just normal people who like to work on and drive bikes.

And as to the whole truck thing... me and my dad tow a trailer loaded with two four-wheelers, deer corn, and alfalfa seed 20 miles back and forth various times during the deer season. We have to make return trips because we've just got too much damn corn. So don't give me this crap that only .05% of the population need a truck with plenty towing capacity. Our lease has plenty of members, and each gets the same amount of corn and seed each year. Also, where I live, plenty of people own cattle and horses that they show each year and sell for money, and need the truck to get them into the town and the fairgrounds to do so. I admit, there are plenty of people who live in the city where I live who buy a truck just so they can drive people off the road, but they're generally outweighed number of people with legitimate uses.

And finally, towards your off-roading mantra... I think people who take their full-sized vehicles off a main road to do anything are pretty inefficient myself. For only a few hundred dollars where I live, you can get a used four-wheeler, (ATV), to do plenty of off-road chores without ruining your vehicles suspension or getting stuck out in the middle of nowhere and spending the whole day and a lot of money in getting the car out.

Police are generally not the sharpest tacks in the drawer, so to speak. And sorry, construction engineers can't even begin building something until plans are approved by actual engineers, with degrees.

That's fine. If you actually NEED a truck, get one. The problem is so many people get a truck/suv without even needing one, it's just stupid. Drive around in the 'burbs'. There are a LOT of trucks, without trailer hitches, and shiny beds! Why? This is irrelevant. I drive a truck with no trailer-hitch and a "shiny bed", (because I don't want to buy a truck liner right now, especially since the cheap ones will allow water under them and rust your bed), and I have a cumulative GPA of 3.8 so far and an ACT score of 28. My friend drives a brand-new Tacoma with off-road package and had a cumulative GPA of 3.7 and an ACT of 25. Plenty of people drive trucks simply because they like them... not to make a statement about penile mass. The only off-roading my truck saw was when I ran it through two ditches and a culvert.

Why do you guys keep ranting and raving over somthing that does not really matter?! He is going to buy the vehical that he wants. Personaly i would much rather have a deisel pickup because of the outragous horsepower and tourque that can be made- all with reasonable milage. If you really want te ultamate package, get a mercedez diesel and run it off vegetable oil like i do with my 03 dodge diesel. It costs me about 70 cents a gallon. all you need is a bio fuels system, a good source of used vegetable oil (fast food resuraunt) and some methenal-alcohal (racing fuel)

Some people don't have a choice in the matter about driving a truck.

I drive a 1987 Chevy R10 Custom Deluxe. Because I had an accident and my car was totaled, I had to spend my savings bonds and could barely afford this truck at 1300 dollars. At 3.30cents a gallon (Premium), it really sucks balls. Plus it gets maybe 10 gallons to the mile.
