my aunt has a suburu and we installed a trailor hitch on and when we put are camper on, it looked like a low rider
In WI. That's an absolutely insane price for a 98 with 180k. Was it being sold by a dealership? Or a private party?goathunter wrote:jrrdw, paying for the gas is what is keeping me from the spudgunsI want to trade my truck straight out for another more fuel efficient truck/small SUV
Cash, where do you live?In SC the Outback I saw was a 98 and had 180k miles. It was still $7500 I was amazed it was that much for a car.
Know anything about other import SUV's?
Actually the Jeep IS an Suv. DUH. It also tends to have a V8, or an inline six. Both of which are pretty fuel hungry. I used to drive one. I should know.fastcannonman wrote:the jeep does not take alot of gas, not as much as an suv
So you're admitting you no longer need a truck.... great. That's the first step toward recovery from Macho Syndrome. Secondly, 2" of ground clearance is barely any at all. I'm pretty sure most lamborghini's have more than 2" of ground clearance. Lastly, I used to own a neon, and it has about 3-4" of suspension travel. They are horrible at offroading. I do not believe your statements.goathunter wrote:In response to Cash's earlier post(the one with the picture).I did actually need the truck when I bought it.I live on a farm. But soon I'm heading off to Kenya and later college so I have no need for a truck anymore.Hence the wanting a new car that can handle my trips back home. And is till good looking. If it were up to me I'd bring my folks Delica back from Kenya. That is a vehicle.
And your picture:I drive my mom's neon like that.Give me a break.Go to Africa and see where they bring the 2" ground clearance, busted out suspension Toyo's.You'll wet yourself if you think that subaru is doing something special.
Um. Sure. And trucks are ugly hick mobiles. Like, if you're an idiot, never go to college, work at a factory, you probably drive a truck. And probably want a harley. Choose your side if you want, but I'd rather be on the educated, not inbred, not racist side. And sorry, I don't think this looks ugly or liberal:ammosmoke wrote:Dude, subaru's are ugly, liberal-mobiles.

My car could do over 150mph, stock.(Unless they are tuned
You obviously haven't driven many. Do you even know what an H6 is?Their performance, as far as acceleration and top speed goes, is not above what your average shmo car could do.
Another ignorant statement. Handling happens whenever you deviate from a straight line. If you live in south dakota, and only drive on the highway, your argument would hold some water, but even then the cons of a truck quickly stack up against it (poor safety, mpg, braking, ride, emergency manuvers, etc)Their handling, yeah, better, but you won't need it.
This just means you haven't been in many cars. At all. If you find a truck 'quiet' I'm guessing you've never even been in a car. Your statements go from ignorant to wrong, and quickly jump up to pure insanity. My dad's truck accelerates faster than many cars I have been in, so what. It rides nicer than most japanese cars i've been in, is quieter inside, and doesn't feel like I have a blanket insulating me from the road noise. (Ram 1500 with hemi)
... I'm really trying hard not to call you a fucking idiot, considering Toyota, Lexus, Acura, and Subaru have higher fit and finish ratings than almost any domestic brand except caddillac. My Subaru has leather seats, a suede/padded vinyl dash, and door panels with matching suede and padded vinyl. Everything is soft, and luxurious. It was designed by Guigiaro of italdesign, in Italy. You really don't know what the hell you're talking about, and you're making broad generalizations that simply aren't true. You obviously don't read up on cars at all, and you're not a vehicular obsessive person like me, and I'm sorry to say, but I know a LOT more than you about this subject, and what you're saying is just plain made up bullshit.Oh yeah, and the engine doesn't sound like some bees buzzing around in a bottle. Japanese cars may last longer, but they sure seem cheap when you get inside.
I admit it, I am a sucker for trucks,
Actually you're COMPLETELY and TOTALLY wrong. Deathrates are much MUCH higher in pickups/suvs than they are for cars.but if you get in a crash with a car in one, guess who's going to live?
Newsflash: Most people don't tow what their truck is advertised to tow. People using 'towing capacity' like a dick contest. Great. It can tow 100,000 lbs. Awesome. But who the fuck ever does that? Like .05% of the population. It's sad to say, but most trucks/suvs I see don't even have trailer hitches.Plus, subaru's tow nowhere near the same amount your average truck can.
Bullshit. You're saying a dodge ram with a hemi handles well? It has a live axles, and leaf springs. You seriously know absolute DICK about cars. What is the slalom speed for a ram? 55.9mph.EDIT: Oh yeah, my dad's truck handles pretty well also, very carlike handling.
The question is, how much does the boat weigh?ammosmoke wrote:Take a look at the towing capacity of a 1500 pickup, then look at your subaru. Big difference.
http://www.edmunds.com/reviews/list/top ... ticle.html
Although, you should note, in this list that the 2005 subaru has more towing capacity than a 1990's one.
In fact, more by 1000 lbs.
The never go to college part, working at a factory part, and driving a truck part comprises a considerable portion of my family, and none of them are idiots, inbred, or racists. If you don't like trucks, that's perfectly fine. Just don't go stereotyping everybody who drives one into some backwards sharecropper from the 19th century.cash68 wrote: Um. Sure. I didn't say EVERYBODY who drives a truck is, did I? I just said that idiots, inbreds, and racists are GENERALLY country bumpkins who drive pickup trucks/ suvs. Think about it.markfh11q wrote:The never go to college part, working at a factory part, and driving a truck part comprises a considerable portion of my family, and none of them are idiots, inbred, or racists. Question: Who is more likelly to go to college today? As to the college remark, back even only twenty years ago, it wasn't as easy to get into college as it was today. Only rich people, or extremely smart people, (think kids on the track to getting a PhD.), got degrees. Indeed, I'm sure a lot of us on the road to a scholarship or on TOPS or some such would not stand a chance of getting a degree back then.
Police are generally not the sharpest tacks in the drawer, so to speak. And sorry, construction engineers can't even begin building something until plans are approved by actual engineers, with degrees. My dad never went to college, but is still a Lieutenant in the LA State Police... chosen over plenty of people who did get a college degree. Just because people don't go to college doesn't mean they're stupid. My uncle Melvin's a pretty damn good construction engineer, and knows more about building something that'll stand up to time than your average college dick with a B.S. degree.
For someone who was bringing up the past, your example sure is stuck in it. GM is screwed right now because of their mindset for factory workers getting fat retirement checks, and tons of cash. Check out the state of today's auto union's and what they're doing to our auto companies. Since when does going to college= becoming a cashier? That's a new one to me. I didn't know you had to get a degree to operate a cash register. Also, as to working in a factory... WTF is your problem? Plenty of people work in factories in America because they want to. I would rather work in a factory if I got out of High School and didn't want to go to college, than end up flying a cash register at some supermarket dealing with people with your mentality all day. If you want a stable paycheck with plenty of hours, that'll keep you alive until you retire... a factory job is best. You are basically putting down a big portion of our population that simply works for a living, when you are, what?, just out of high-school/college?
Dude. I LIVE IN MILWAUKEE. There are motorcycle guys... and then there are HARLEY DAVIDSON OWNERS. They're different people completely. And owning a Harley or other motorcycle is pretty much a hobby all in itself. It has nothing to do with "machoism" as you put it. If you actually took the time to know a few of the people you see on the interstate in black leather, you would find out that they're just normal people who like to work on and drive bikes.
That's fine. If you actually NEED a truck, get one. The problem is so many people get a truck/suv without even needing one, it's just stupid. Drive around in the 'burbs'. There are a LOT of trucks, without trailer hitches, and shiny beds! Why? BECAUSE THEY DON'T TOW OR HAUL ANYTHING, and they bought them because all their friends are stupid uneducated hicks who say things like "dang jap cars! they're all pussy vehicles!"And as to the whole truck thing... me and my dad tow a trailer loaded with two four-wheelers, deer corn, and alfalfa seed 20 miles back and forth various times during the deer season. We have to make return trips because we've just got too much damn corn. So don't give me this crap that only .05% of the population need a truck with plenty towing capacity. Our lease has plenty of members, and each gets the same amount of corn and seed each year. Also, where I live, plenty of people own cattle and horses that they show each year and sell for money, and need the truck to get them into the town and the fairgrounds to do so. I admit, there are plenty of people who live in the city where I live who buy a truck just so they can drive people off the road, but they're generally outweighed number of people with legitimate uses.
I'm sorry if I pissed you off or insulted you. I didn't mean to. I've just had many people in my life HURT because of the poor performance and lack of safety in trucks/suvs. Read this for more info, it's a research paper I did:And finally, towards your off-roading mantra... I think people who take their full-sized vehicles off a main road to do anything are pretty inefficient myself. For only a few hundred dollars where I live, you can get a used four-wheeler, (ATV), to do plenty of off-road chores without ruining your vehicles suspension or getting stuck out in the middle of nowhere and spending the whole day and a lot of money in getting the car out.
Fine. Next time you're in trouble, try calling a crack-head.cash68 wrote: Police are generally not the sharpest tacks in the drawer, so to speak. And sorry, construction engineers can't even begin building something until plans are approved by actual engineers, with degrees.
I'm not talking about people who graduate college, I'm talking about people who graduate high school and don't go to college. I'm saying that I'd rather work in a factory than a supermarket, basically.cash68 wrote: Since when does going to college= becoming a cashier? That's a new one to me. This is irrelevant. I drive a truck with no trailer-hitch and a "shiny bed", (because I don't want to buy a truck liner right now, especially since the cheap ones will allow water under them and rust your bed), and I have a cumulative GPA of 3.8 so far and an ACT score of 28.cash68 wrote: Question: Who is more likelly to go to college today?
John, the guy who has a car, and passed high school with a 3.3GPA?
Or Jimbob the truck driver, who doesn't even have a GED?
Which person do you think is more likely to drive a truck?
