I was just thinking about putting red lasers in it's eyes and flamethrowers on the arms, but this certainly seems a lot more attractive than the organical thing :)

Indeed! I put the suggestion forward to the good lady but was met with the following rebuttal:
the aspiring Mrs JSR wrote:no, dear
because
1. I don't want to cheat on you with alien
2. we are not so old :)

also our own baby will be cheaper than that one:)
That last objection is utterly ridiculous - think of the AWESOME robot you could have for the cost of raising one human child!!!!

Looking at the video again, it looks like it should be saying "kiiiillll meeee.... killl mmmmeeeee...." :D

If you have $100 to spend, there are plenty of genertic smartphones out there that work well enough.

http://www.ebay.com/itm/Android-2-3-Cel ... 3cc5876366

For example.

Has all the features and its no tragedy if it breaks :)

just buy one, she'll love it, no poop, puke, diapers, whining, and waking up at night because the little jerk is screaming for milk :)
And you keep the ability to party and come home drunk whenever you feel like it :D

Send her a calculation of the diaper and food costs, she'll see :P

Naww, it's far less revolting than the real human larva

Jack,
Have you tried using your scientific expertise by pointing out that children are merely a byproduct of a function or process?

Do I look suicidal

I once patiently tried to explain that emotions are nothing but the products of chemical imbalances in the brain, clearly proven by the fact that they can be artificially altered by the administration of drugs or other physical changes to the body, and as such concepts like love are fundamentally meaningless.

That did not win me a lot of points I can tell you :D

More so in today's society but from a few million years BP to several millennia ago, it would have been a fairly important process regarding kinship and the like; possibly even an adaptive process.

That doesn't invalidate my contention though.

Anything that has survived or been honed by millions of years of evolution clearly works, and must be beneficial in terms of the propagation of a species within the context of its environment, no doubt about that - but it doesn't mean it's not fundamentally meaningless.

It goes for everything in life, anything is only as important as the number of people who give a toss about it. Meaning is something we ascribe whether as individuals or as a society, and it therefore has no relevance beyond the realm of human consciousness, which in itself depends entirely on the organic functioning of our primate brains.

I recently bought this :D
