If you're cranking the unions as tight as they'll go, using aluminum foil disks, and a butyl rubber gasket on both sides, the only way that I can think of to get a better seal without buying a new union is to grind down the sealing face so that it's flat, and cast an insert for the female side for it to have more area to seal on, thus creating a flat sealing face which you can make a lead/brass/copper gasket for.

Buying one of those 3kpsi unions from McMaster might help too, but I can't guarantee that, as mine won't arrive for another week or two.

Also, the individual plastic pellets don't have enough kinetic energy to penetrate the wood by themselves, they just shatter. I've tried the same thing with the SCTBDC, and got the exact same results (with 100 of them at 1100fps or so). I couldn't get through more than 1/4" or so of wood. You need larger and denser shot, like 1/4" or 3/8" ball bearings.

BTW what do you father say to this gun?

DYI:Im not using any gasket at all  I guess Im supposed to.
Ill go get a gasket this weekend, along with a high accuracy gauge so I can get more consistant results.

and i dont think this gun has the power to shoot ball bearings at enough velocity to do much to the wood.

Spudfarm: What he first said was....thats really loud
He has not yet seen it at its full potencial(he has only seen one 3x shot).
I hope he doesnt see it at higher mixes because then he might say no hard ammo, which would really suck.

very nice. though it didn't penetrate, it still made a nice boom.

ever consider shooting flour? it looks awesome. especially when you pre-color it with food coloring...

What kind of voltage is your ignition system for this? If you crank it up to 8x or so you might get more impressive results. Judging by what I've seen so far though, this design isn't robust enough to reach that mix, for one reason or another. On the other hand, your use of air as an oxidiser means that you don't need to run 50 feet of wire like I do...

Also, I usually don't b*tch too much about this, but you REALLY need to work on your spelling. And when are you planning on fixing the spelling of "Lieutenant" in the title of the thread?

I've been wondering that, but I was perhaps a little too polite to suggest it.

Interesting results on that shot. The likely problem was the large number of BBs, limiting the kinetic energy of each one. Try it again with only 100 or 200 BBs instead of 500, and see if you can get some decent penetration.

sthorne: I might try to shoot some flour this weekend

DYI:The ignition system has nowhere near the voltage of a stungun but it gives a hell of a lot more shock than a regular piezo ignitor(Actually hurts)
And I wouldn't feel safe with an 8x mix, it does have 150psi rated fittings on it you know
And really sorry about my spelling, I didn't realize lieutenant was misspelled  Ill go fix it right away
Ill make sure to use the spell check from now on.

Rag: I'll try that
Probably wont manage a vid but Ill try it and get a couple pics.

Nice hybriding there BB! Need to work on your spelling some my man. Your first movie was littered with lots of basic misspellings. Also it's "lieutenant".

Otherwise great effort on your hybrid! Some of your video shots were a tad too close. Pull back some with your camera to get a little wider view of your damage.

How about a watermelon shot...

I realize my spelling is not the best
The first vid I was editing at like 11:00PM and I had a long day so I was tired.

Thanks though
Ill get a helpful hand to film next time which will get me some better angles of the damage.

And about the watermelon shot
Maybe, I dont know
The chances of that would be quite lowHaHa I made a rhime(that might be misspelled)

Ive also decided this gun just doesnt have enough power for me, I mean sure its powerful and all but most of my pnumatics can easially outpower it.
Im going to make a larger one once I get enough money.

Sounds like a rhyme the giant Fezzik would have said when he was on the ship in the movie "The Princess Bride"...classic...if you haven't seen it, rent it some time...dry hilarious humor...

Watermelons just make a spectacular explosion when hit...your small bore maybe not as much. Imagine a golfball hitting a watermelon at 1000 fps... Yes time for big-bore hybrid BB...

starman i can make a shot at a water melon out of my 2400fps golfball hybrid for you :)

and i understand you have a hard time getting copper BB's in the wood with a chamber that size. fill about 1/2" of your barrel with them and wad them at the front and the back. then, you can go to 6x with it. i did some with my hybrid and it also have 150psi fittings.

once more think of a coke bottle.

to get more power in it just get a new chamber for it. really cheap. the most expensive part on a small hybrid (up to 2") is the meter and you can use that meter on a bigger hybrid with more accuracy (?)

i fired about 30gram of lead BB's

:) By all means Spudfarm, knock yourself out...:) I'm wondering though if 2400 fps may be a little overkill for the job at hand...that of course being nice big colorful WM explosions on video.

My next time out with my burst disk 1x, I may take a shot or 2 at some melons.
