Haha I found an engine I could use. mcmaster- 59785K83
5 hp air motor

@rcman- Air hogs you say?, I might have to go look into those this weekend... are you saying that you pump those up with air and it has a small air powered motor?
edit:- http://www.rehkemper.com/airmotor.html
Are you saying I build a large one of these
It says it can do scale 400 mph

Don't use scale speeds. They never really work out. The reason scale speeds are higher is because smaller engines are always more efficient. My rc car, for example, has a scale speed of 450 mph. But if you bring it up to actual size, it's speed couldn't possible reach more than 100 mph. However what you've found is good. I would get the little model and just watch the mechanism work. It'll inspire innovations in design and performance that only a huge amount of internet research could provide. It says the motor is only 8 cents. Try to get one donated for "science". I'm sure they'll comply. Companies like this always like to support the little man because it gets free publicity.

Another thought. Try to get one motor for each wheel. This way you don't need a solid axle or a differential to operate both wheels. You also get 10 hp; which is modest for a humble go cart. Don't froget to try to get compressors for brakes. It's an idea that I've never thought of before and I'm excited to see if it would work.

compressers??? what do you mean? anyway, I already sent them an email to donate it for a "science project" The only problem I see with having one for each wheel is that they have to be spinning the same speed. If I bought two of those larger mcmaster motors, then it would be expensive as hell.

Once an idea like this exo-skeleton is perfected we'll probably see more jet packs and bigger cannon type armament.

Instead of using an electric motor to pump a piston in a compressor, just have the momentum of the car do it by using the wheels. In other words when you need to use the brakes you just use the resistance created by an air compressor which will fill the tanks with air and slow down the car at the same time. Also electronic motors are great in the fact that they have large tolerances. They won't blow up if they don't spin as fast as they're supposed to. If you wire the motors in series, when you make a turn, even if the motors aren't spinning the same speed, both motors will recieve the same amount of torque. The same will go for straight travel. Even if there is a motor on only the right wheel the cart will still travel straight. I've seen plenty of carts done that way, they just make sharper left turns than right turns. Another thing, when you say expensive as hell, your comparing it to oe motor when you should be comparing two motors vs one motor and a differential transmission, or an unbalanced cart. Getting rid of those things would definately be worth the money.

reminds me of my idea I once had to make a huge water rocket to launch myself (45kg)
I never made it
it will be very hard and I think you have to make kind of standart to land safely

I wish you good luck (you will need it)

The water rocket jet pack idea has been done,

The guy didn't seem to like it very muvh though...

no I don't think he did... well it seems quite stupid - his balls might have disconected pernamently from his body

well at least its good you decided to build a go-cart instead... spudfiles don't need bad publicity

I got the little engine from that air hogs plane and I'll draw up a prototype scale later, maybe ill post some pics too.
