Well, I did think about waiting until after I'm done looking over the data, but I suppose it can't hurt to tell you now.

I have some ideas about where, and to a lesser degree, when "really good" music comes from.
One of these theories is that a person's musical tastes, in spite of the global music industry, will often tend, at least in part, towards artists from their own culture.

For example, if you look at my list, 6 of the 12 tracks are from artists from the UK (which of course is where I live) - 7 if you count U2 from the Republic of Ireland as well.
Only one of the 12 is from this decade (the Meat Loaf, Alive and it's run-in Monstro, from Bat out of Hell 3).

I needed more information to work on the idea further, and now I've got that, I've got a small project for a rainy day some day soon.

Idk Ragnarok. American culture seems to absorb coolstuff from all over.

Also IMO when you hear music you like, it's sort of in your blood wherever you're from or go.

Heck, last year I was listening to lot's of music in Spanish!
(Due to roomates) I liked a lot of it because of the lyrics and themes. And when I was in my room (unavoidably listening) It would give me a cowboy or pistolero vibe!!! 8)

I like some stuff for strange reasons too.
Like if I saw them live.Or met them and they're cool (Guy named Dave Goodrich- "Thousand years of highway").

Or some songs I like because I interperet the lyrics differently than what they are (Collective soul--"Shine" sounds like he's saying my younger brothers name)
So it's personal stuff to people rather than the sound alone too(?) 8)

I'm not sure on your idea, most rock music before the 60's was dominated by the British, and still dominated up until the mid-80's. Sure there were plenty of good American bands, but it always was a British thing to begin with.

And when I say rock, I mean anything from Elvis and The Beatles to Ozzy Osbourne and Van Halen as that is what most listen to here.

I don't listen to any New Zealand bands because for starters all the rock bands are new age alternative and everything else is hip hop, rasta crap or electronica and dance.


Also people from New Zealand are more likely to listen to a NZ band then someone from Europe for the simple fact that no one in Europe has probably heard of that band before.

It is just a theory. Not saying it's right, but it's an idea I had.
You never know unless you test something whether it works.

Now, my own understanding of music history is that up until the 1960's there were relatively few "rock" artists, and a considerable number were American.
Bands such as the Rolling Stones and the Beatles did change the balance, but that depends in part on where you draw the pure "rock" and "Rock and roll" line.

It's entirely possible to discern between US and European rock, even if you don't know the artist or song, a decent music fan could probably manage it.
If that's possible, it follows that there must be a cultural difference between the two, but does that affect where the music is popular?

Your point about artists from a country not being known outside the country is something I considered.
There is a ska band that comes from my old school I rather like, and it's possible some of you might - but I'll be damned if any of you know about them.

It's getting towards stupid o'clock so I'm going to have to go to bed, because I have a long day tomorrow (puns about the 21st/22nd of June being the longest days in the year of the northern hemisphere not withstanding), or today I suppose...

Has anyone ever been to a concert?
I've been to an eric clapton concert, a goo goo dolls concert, and a steely dan concert. all had phenomenal seats, for ec i was 15yards from stage, goo goos was about 30, steely dan was 30 as well.

Rolling Stones, Guns n' Roses and Ozzy Osbourne for me.

Why am I not surprised?

Rolling Stones wasn't my choice. But your not surprised because my avatar is an Ozzy Osbourne EP and my name is a Ozzy song.

My dads is like super long he collected every ticket to every concert he has been to and I must say their is at least twenty.

Since a concert in my style of music would fall under the theme of a rave party, I've been to about 15 big parties now. I started doing that since about one year ago.

I just went to Vans Warped tour with a bunch of awesome bands. And I've been to a Bullet for my valentine/All that remains/(some other band that i forgot the name) And TSO (trans siberian orchestra) if you classify that as a concert, and the worst concert Ive ever been to... Santana!!!

I havent seen many people that listen to metalcore...?
