These tiny BBs are remarkably fidgety, I mean when it goes it goes, the rate of fire when it is working makes me find comfort in the fact that the ammunition is so cheap. I've tried all manner of vortex blocks of different sizes and cloud configurations - seriously, I'm on prototype No. 8 at the moment - none of them so far give me a reliable burst every time I open the valve, and for a sentry gun that's not something I can accept.

My latest version currently curing looks something like the diagram below, I'll see how well it works later this afternoon.

so the input is very close to the output (barrel port)?

mine looks like this... all built from standard iron and brass fittings

ohh and I also have some pics of the adjustable rubber washer holder... it is pretty much as simple as it gets

The problem with that design on this scale is that no matter what the input flow is, the output is restricted to the 1mm barrel, so you're not going to agitate the BBs enough to make a conventional cloud work well. With the current design I'm hoping that there will be enough turbulence close to the breech to stop the BBs jamming, while gravity should keep the mass of BBs in the general area of this turbulence. Testing in a couple of hours, we'll see.

Another attempt at making this work reliably, this time with a neodymium magnet added. This not only serves as a detent but effectively draws BBs into the breech even without any airflow. Prototype is curing, watch this space...

I think you may have some problems with the Nd magnet. I hope you
know how strong they are. However a toroidal magnet may help if it
was placed around the barrel.

Haha, I misread the title of this topic as '1mm calibre PITA'

Sounds like it ain't too far from the truth :D

The construction is such that BBs cannon go back into the ball valve because of the restrictors I placed in the tubing, so thankfully the scenario in your diagram can't happen. I did some tests dropping BBs bear the breech area and they were sucked into the barrel instantly if close enough, there is no other magnetic element in the firing chamber except the top bolt and nut for filling (ball valve and all piping is brass/aluminium) and I have high hopes for this thing. Couple of hours and we'll see if they are justified...

Considering I've been at this for months, it's a pretty accurate description  :D

I've tried using tubing as a magazine... a short length of 6mm ID tubing was completely enclosed in the chamber but it didn't work well.. I realized I have to cut holes in it close to the detent

.....OMG I have a terrrrrrrrrrrrrrrible hangover :x
