You don't want to leave the chuck key in either, some idiot did that at school and it flew out, bounced off the ground and flew past a dude that was standing behind him. If he was a step to the side he wouldn't have been having kids.

And wear a face shield and don't have loose fitting clothing, hot swarf down your shirt is bad enough, you don't want it in your eye or face in general, nor do you want a tie or scarf wrapped around spinning bits.

I know it's common sense, but that's the stuff that people ignore.

that is scary stuff, would be very careful around power tools, especially saws and lathes geezus that was graphic, luckily i didnt click full size

Please don't buy the 6 in 1 JSR posted, they are total junk and compaired to the standard mini-lathes the 6 in 1 wont teach you anything. Spend some time with your friend who has the lathe and ask him to show you the basics.

@JSR, I don't know if your forgetting or just messing with War because of all the questions but you pointed out the very thing I tried to steer you from buying. I see you bought the Sheerline instead, wise choice.

But yes, accident happen on real size machinery.

When I was at school, on the single year I learned mechanic basics around 10th grade, I saw a guy that took a cut too deep on a shaper like that:

The steel piece dislodged from the table, flew through the workshop and made a large hole in a steel cabinet... I still remember the sound

I say often that you need to approach a lathe or mill like if you were feeding a crocodile, like VERY carefully. I really mean it. Concentrate, don't machine when you are tired, or when there's people around talking to you. And keep your hands on something far away from the rotating parts, like the off switch. Even on a machine as small as a Sherline. The motor will crunch your hand bones in a blink. And a badly fixed piece is a lethal projectile.

Jack, new idea, I dunno if you saw it on maudits thread, but a DIY cannon kit, including break barrel which unscrews in 3 diff places to become 3 six inch pieces.

I'm not too keen on selling launchers because of liability issues as well as being in breach of local regulations. I do have plans to turn this is into a commercial venture though, but need to get good at it first

Yeah I understand that ;D I was going to sell a few of my rigs online, but my mom wouldn't let me in case it got traced to a bombing or something, not that it would, any thing I make has to be cut apart before you can reuse it, and when you cut it apart you destroy the internals... So I have safety systems.

What sort of stuff were you thinking about selling? I have a commercial idea, you could start selling high pressure hand pumps (not the penis pumps as I saw in a previous thread) to the forum members.
