ABS is bad for pneumatics, but great for combustions. I have a rather large combustion made out of ABS, works like a charm. Even running off propane, no problem.

ya froggy u dont know what ur talkin about , First I'm not stupid enough to use cellular core and Second abs is safier for the fact that it doesnt explode it rips or tears. Also 125psi is no bid deal i have a stupid little bike pump that is made out of thin plastic and i have pump things up to 130psi with it and its thinnier then schedule 40 plastic. So i'm not stupid and abs is perfectly fine to use for a simple pneumatic, combustion or even propane like some cannons on this website.

frogy knows exactly what he’s talking about, I just hope when that ABS "rips or tears" it doesn't rip or tear you a new one! He didn't call you stupid he said you are inexperienced which you are.

well trust me im not inexpernced at all, and yes i know abs isnt the greatest pipe to use but its good enough for a simple pneumatic or combustion. And plus I live in Canada and its almost imposible to get pressure rated pvc. But no one should be afraid of usin abs as long as its not cellular core it will be perfectly fine.

Non pressure rated ABS or PVC
Simple combustion - Yes
Propane combustion - Maybe
0 – 60 psi Pneumatic - Maybe
125 psi Pneumatic - NO

this guy was using oxygen and propane and all the happened was after 30 tries the barrel cracked from it being slammed from the recoil.

If you want to use your cannons unsafely, then please do. But don't encourage anyone else too. Before you say your cannon is safe, if it's outside of the pressure rating it's not safe. I can find plenty of people getting away with stupid stuff, that doesn’t mean that it a good idea or that it’s safe. I'm not saying that your stupid, the guy with propane and oxygen is the stupid one. He said himself that he thought it was going to explode, just because it didn't, doesn't mean its safe. The only good thing he did was shield himself and use a remote firing system.
Its interesting that the ABS pipe is able to withstand the abuse of being used as a cannon at all. Before firing the cannon for the first time, I took numerous precaustions to shield myself from the grenade like explosion of shrapnel that might result.

ya thats true, I totally agree with you, and I've only charged my cannon to 125psi 10 times to test how strong abs is, now I only charge to 90psi to leave a safety margine.

Yes you are stupid and no ABS is not safe unless you want to die. And how do you know it rips and explods? Frogy has more brain cells in his left nut then you brain.
"Second abs is safier for the fact that it doesnt explode it rips or tears."
It is still explodeing, you could rupture a ear drum, if it is sholder mounted it could rip your eye out. So, dont be stupid and buy sch40.

Ive heard that ABS can really stink inside combustions when it burns!
yo danny! i don't know how to put it besides that your a silly fu(k.
if you can't get a hold of pressure rated pvc, make a metal one or don't make them at all.
find a new hobby so you don't get killed and ruin spudding for guys like fred_roux, who lives in canada.

First off, putting gas in PVC pipe isn't safe... end of story. In this feild, like any feild, we deal only with relitive degrees of saftey.
Guys, stop with the ad-hominims... or however you spell it. Attacking them, calling them stupid, whatnot, does not help convince them that they are wrong.
Pressure rated ABS is used for gas systems because of it's mode of failure; it tears instead of fragmenting. This is well documented fact.
On the other hand, it's more likely to fail than pressure rated PVC, as your generic ABS pipe is cell-core. (not that there isn't pressure-rated ABS. It's just extreamly rare.)
As to the smell, indeed, I once dremeled some ABS, and it did indeed smell quite bad. At least as bad as neoprene...

thank you leadbath for those points, and the only reason i use abs in the first place is beacuse I live in Canada, its basically impossible to find anything pressure rated except maybe hoses.
go Italy go!!!!!

Dan, just because someone else did it doesn't mean you should. Take a close look at how TINY that gun of his is. Smaller pipe has a much higher pressure rating. If you ever wanted something bigger than that for higher performance then you are really asking for it.

hey gort take a look at my original post, first I'm not using abs, and second its going to be a 2" chamber, I'm not making a large cannon at all...And can we get back on topic and finally forget about the abs pipe!!!
