o yeah and for the test projectilei reccomend embedding a nail in silly putty.

it is extremley powerful, and will silly putty fits most barrels well.

If you are doing tests with materails with a thinkness i would say that you should try a more stable object that would have more mass.
That way you kno that every projectile will hit at the same speed(aprox), have the same mass, Will hit with the same amount of surface area(aprox), and will have the same strengh.

For a test projectile use a solid lead ball, a sphere is more stable out of a smooth-bore than an elongated projectile.

Make adobe brick out of the clay, three inches of that stuff will stop a thirty-ought-six.
Hey, what if you sandwiched three inches of adobe between sheet metal and one inch ply-wood, Sheet metal on the inside? The ply-wood would slow down the projectile the adobe would stop it and the sheet metal would prevent the adobe from fragging.

By the way incase nobody noticed, I like lead…a lot…

I'm gonna use a golf ball... and I changed most of the dilatant materials to things like silica and cellulose

you could just use lexguard, at 3" thick it will stop a direct hit from a morter. Should work for your purposes.
