I said earlier to let all the mods review the donations so it would be fair and unbias. I have one more idea to make it more fair(since someone said that certian mods can deal out spudbux at their own leasure. Take away the whole spudbux capability from the mods. Not to be mean, but the mods have sig's and custom rankings. What in the world do they need spudbux for? If for a good reason, let us donate to each other and the mods make sure were not just dealing them out. That would take away the suspiscion of certian mods.

How about this...

What if there were no more spudbux. Instead there was a reputation system. Basically you would get some rep from making posts, and you would get some rep for just however long you are registered. The main thing would be is that people could give rep to eachother.

Say someone posted an awesome cannon, you could reply
awesome cannon man! I love the new valve design! +rep
The rep points would basically just be a status symbol here on SpudFiles. Points would be limited as to how many you could give per day and other "fairness" factors involved.

As far as the signature and avatar thing goes, I could set it up so signature woulden't show up till you have say 25 posts, avatars woulden't show up till 10 posts, etc. For custom titles, you could donate say $5 to SpudFiles to get a title of your choice.

Sound like maybe a good idea? I am trying to get away from the whole "shop and bux" thing since 1 it confuses many people thinking it's real money and 2 once you buy a few things there is no real point to having spudbux anymore.

Sounds fine.

Don't change it over til I've managed to buy a custom title though

A limit of +1 rep available to give out per day would encourage sensible repping and make them more worthwhile than being able to give out say +1 to everyone per day.

People controlled reps will always be open to corruption through making multiple accounts to silently rep a main account though.

Unless all reps had to be in an identifiable post in which case you'd be able to pick up on a tail of newbie accounts following someone.

I think it's pointless, mostly because you're rewarding the quantity of posts, not the quality.

If you're a decent member who makes a relevant contribution, you'll get respected for that. If not, you'll get flamed and ultimately ignored. You don't need a spurious bank account in an irrelevant currency for that system to work

edit: You earned 3.54 Spud Bux spud bux for that post! YAY!

*sigh*

that sound perfect, i would willingly grant up to 30$$ to SF, and i really dont want to wait for the 100,000 something spudbux neccissary. and i have been planning to donate some money anyway.

i really dont care about Spudbux, the only reason i want them i so that i can get a custom title.

i like the rep system over the bux system. And the posts limit would be nice too, to get an avatar and signature and etc.

but don't do away with the spudbux just yet - im trying to buy a g-string

I say let's give this "rep" system a shot.

My only real question is, if it doesn't work out, can you restore the old system (and everyone would get their spudbucks/purchased items/etc... back) or is it a permanent change?

Hmm, maybe for every 3 posts you make, you get one "rep" point to give away to someone you think deserves it?

Peace,
Pete Zaria.

I've noticed there isn't much in the way of rewarding intellectually stimulating topics, i.e. some topics have huge discussions ensuing, while others get hardly any follow up posts. Perhaps topic posters could get a fraction of the bonus that the posters get, therefore the more in-depth the replies are, the more points the topic starter earns.

Users would give rep for good posts. Only part of the rep would come from the number of posts... I may be able to turn that totally off I won't know till I install it.

And yes Pete it would be a fairly permanent change, unless I just restored from a backup which may create more hassle than it's worth.
