But that kills it for fellow international members like me when it would cost us like $60USD to ship something the size of a sprinkler valve.
Easier to keep it to solid hard cash....well numbers on your bank statement.

Mm, Crowley does have a point. But it shouldn't be a problem as long as we don't let the Aussies win! But yea, the gift thing may not be the best.

Quit being picky Crowley, lol. American's rule, we're the only ones that matter! That's the winning attitude! Haha, it's all good, Australia made Steve Irwin, they deserve a win or two.

No not the Kiwis! We should have a contest within the next year or sooner and users should all chip in. Say an entry fee to put towards the prize.

Not all users should chip in; only those of us who would be competing.
Personally, I wouldn't be competing, because I'm all out of new ideas. The SideStrafer was built right after the first contest, I think that could have gone somewhere in there, but everything else is "just another idea."

When I was planning, I wasn't thinking straight, to tired from football practice, :sleepy3: If we do have a contest, there should be an entery fee, and the money should go to the winner.

Do you play football too? WHat position? Anyways, back on topic, no one ever gave any feedback about an ammo contest. I don't think there's ever been one, and with all the possibilities I think it would yield some good results/products/ideas.(BTW, I know we have an ammo thread, but a contest is a completely different story)

The only bad thing about an ammo contest is someone with a lathe/cnc mill would pwn every one else. There would have to be a certain percent of the vote based on "creative use of materials" or "MacGyvering ability" to keep people with fancy tools from constantly winning.

Also, a good objective of an ammo competition would be to "discover new things that fit". I could cast a long-range sabotted lead KE round with a hardened steel tip, but that doesn't really benifit the masses any, does it?
It would be better to find things that everyone can do.

No, but I do competitive cycling, which is just as bad, if not worse!

I like the ammo contest idea, but as _Fnord said, there would have to be catagories to make it fair (although in a regular cannon contest, people still have disadvantages, but w/e) It would justtake a bit of brain-storming to get right

I think that just a position of glory would be a good prize. Costs nothing, but is still worth trying for.
I'd personally love to know that my creation had been voted as the best by the people who really knew what they were talking about.

You'll notice that last time, the cash prizes were largely turned down.

I'm left wondering to who and what that is referring...
paaiyan wrote:Well, I have this really really good idea, but I'm having trouble figuring out how I wanna do the propane metering. If everythign I'm thinking works correctly, I could be looking at 1 round per second, maybe even quicker. But I HAVE to figure out the metering or the whole thing goes down the drain.
I've already helped Ragnarok solve the auto metering and venting problem for an automatic combustion design we've got. However, low funds, and difficulties within the family have thus far prevented it's construction, and will probably keep it on hold for a lot longer.

Early calculations of potential rate of fire are over 10 rounds a second depending on compressor flow and chamber size. (No, I am still talking about a combustion. The air is needed for venting)
The tricky part is finding a loader that can work that fast, but 'rok reckons that a minigun style design would work. I think that's a bit optimistic, but it should be fun to try.

If I can get some plans together, I could PM them to you if you want. Or if you're not too bothered, I could just post them in the combustion section.

Novacastrian: How about use whatever the heck you can get your hands on?
frankrede: Well then I guess it won't matter when you decide to drink bleach because your out of kool-aid.
...I'm sorry, but that made my year.
