Then how do you get fuel mix behind the piston to seal after removal from the fill rig? Or did you wind up filling from the rear?

The idea was that it would still leak behind the diaphragm, clearly I was mistaken :roll: maybe a pinhole would have solved the problem.

Just a semi-random idea, but why not use ball-detents to hold back the projectile? Pretty much the same idea the Striker uses to hold back the piston...

I experimented here for a pneumatic cart, for a hybrid though you need some way to regulate detent pressure and you're still left with the problem of sealing. A compressed o-ring is simpler and provides seal and retention.
