i agree with the checking of membership date, as well as IP checks, some people would do anything for $100.
exactly why i have not sent any money yet..PCGUY wrote:Umm guys do NOT send any money. What are you thinking? We are just discussing the possibility of a contest and you start sending money when you don't even know what the contest is, when it is, or if there will even be one? If there is one, it wouldn't be over till many months from now.
Yes, for any official contest I perform LOTS of checks to ensure "fishy business" isn't going on.The last contest had a post quota of sorts. Do we want to do the same thing again? Or a membership date deadline? This way, it can help stop double entries and other unethical behavior.
I like this idea, I think we should use something very similar to this rubric to make the contest more broad and fair. I also like the idea of an entry fee, so distribution of fees for everyone is equal.I think the contest shoule be for the best all-around cannon. Ingenuity would be a part of it. Make a rubic for scoring, something like this:
Ingenuity: 1-10 pts
Paint/finish: 1-10 pts
Power: 1-10 pts
Size: 1-10 pts
Overall aesthetics/design: 1-10 pts
% of popular vote: 1-50 pts
Popular vote would not be winner takes all, but your point total would be a representative of the % of votes you received out of all votes cast. The other items would be judged by a panel, like the mods. The average score from each other area would be assigned an appropriate point value. The cannon with the highest number of points wins!
This is one way that we can "shoot" for a fair contest that includes all members as well as makes it not so much a popularity contest, but has some specific guidelines/criteria.
Pimp, a mod, offered to pool some cash for this. I trust him to hold the money until the contest completes, else I wouldn't have send it to him. I also trust that if for some reason the contest doesn't go forward, he will Paypal the money back to the donors.PCGUY wrote:Umm guys do NOT send any money. What are you thinking? Understood, but still why send money before anything is even decided yet? It's like paying for a used car you haven't even seen yet.starman wrote:Pimp, a mod, offered to pool some cash for this. I didn't expect anything return for my donation except that a decent prize be available for the contest at large. If the best gun that came out of the contest was a gold-plated spitball straw, then so be it...PCGUY wrote: Understood, but still why send money before anything is even decided yet? I have asked Pimpmann22 to return the money until we have something official and set.
Theres a problem with that? It just makes buying all the more interesting. Also while the entry fee is a good idea to stop shenanigans some of us can't really pay or have paypal (me includedPCGUY wrote: Understood, but still why send money before anything is even decided yet?
