What guns and what ammo would you guys use?

For the guns, besides power, ROF and reliability also is a large factor.
A hybrid may be superior in power, and very good for taking down that overgrown genetically enhanced boss zombie, but for the swarm, you wont get much use of it.

For the ammo, note that it should be widely available during the zombie outbreak.
If you have to make each round one by one, this isn't as bad as it sounds as you sometimes have to hide in a shelter for days anyways. If you don't have the time, a bag of ready to use ammo (like golfballs or marbles) would be better.
Sabot rounds could give that extra penetration power to wipe down a whole row at once, but a spread shot would be useful to push off the swarm.

So, what would you use?

First I would go rob Gander Mountains Gun section along with everyone else in my town. Get plenty of 12 shells, sit on my roof with a lawn chair, and have myself a shooting contest.

Assuming these are your retard zombies, not the crazy I am legend ones.

The retarded zombies are.... retarded and can be killed one by one (or 23 by 54 if you can) while such crazy zombies would require a more stealthy approach.

It may be a bit "old fashioned" but perfect for the swarm. Except for the fact you only get two shots. MAybe if i could get my hands on a remington semi auto 12, the downside it is only single ought.

I could sit in my house you would have to have a really and i mean really stuipd zombie to come to south georgia the redneck around here are crazier than zombies and anyway over 80% of Georgias population owns a gun. So georgia would be like the fall back point for the rest of the world. And when you look at georgia would be a good place to be in terms of everything survial related.
