This may well be the most amazing thing on this website. ****ing 200x mix...jesus. Please, if you start WWIII, remember us, who have been nice to you? :D :notworthy:

Again, Larda's machine shop never ceases to amaze us with it's capabilities. Not only is it a hybrid capable of a 200x mix, the chamber is the smallest I've ever seen on a full scale hybrid. It's also one of the only chambers that was completely machined for this specific application, and achieves muzzle energies many times higher than even Larda's ETG, which I once thought impossible to beat. I can't wait to see what you come up with next, Larda. Maybe a digitally controlled airburst shell...?

Holy Mother F*cking Sh*t. Thats is absolutely f*cking incredible. Screw thats...it is ungodly. I can't close my eyes and damn it I got drool on my keyboard. My eye's are starting to hurt...sorry I'm just shocked by the beautiful power you have harnessed larda.

Well crap, now I have some serious competition for hybrid power. Guess it's time to finish 4" FEAR.

The work you do is amazing, and your skills send you to the levels of the cannon gods. I am honored to share this forum with you.

Sorry, not impressed right now. I'm unable to comprehend this.

THREE MOTHERFUCKING THOUSAND PSI PREIGNITION PRESSURES?!

Surely you guys realise I would do madder things than this if I could...

*Crap, where's the puppy dog eyes smiley?*

What needs to happen now is a C3H8:O2/:He mix in 1:5:6 proportions... that should allow mile a second velocities, without transonic effects in the propellant gas.

Absolutely insanely awesome gun, but I have a couple of questions. First, what the hell are you using to pressurize it to 2755 psi, and secondly, how on earth do you keep the propane in gas form??????? I thought it only took around 90 psi to liquify propane... is the gun heated before firing or somthing????????? Or do you just ignite it as a liquid and let it flash off???

SCUBA dive bottle.

At room temperature, it takes about 120 psi partial pressure to liquefy propane, sometimes more.
Partial pressure is total pressure x molar percentage of gas in mix.

As there is only 4.03% propane by moles in a proper stoichiometric mix, that means a propane hybrid can be made to work at possibly a couple of mix numbers higher than this, but 200x is about the practical limit for a propane/air hybrid, and you would have a hard time making that limit at low temperatures.

Essentially, that means a 200x mix in propane/air, or a 40x mix in oxy/propane can't be beaten with a hybrid at room temperature.
No-one will ever be able to topple Larda from his record.

There are ways to beat those pre-ignition pressures, but it involves either more temperature, or bulking out with an inert gas like nitrogen or helium.

This is the epitome of hybrid spudding.

I find it interesting that the ignition source for *Little Boy* consists of a wire that heats up, that in turn would warm the gases/liquids before combustion.
Using this same technique would one be able to exceed the record?
Major milestone- yes, epitome- lets wait and find out.

Well Someone could always pull a 201x mix just to steal the record for a few days, but he could do a 202. You just can't top it by much.

Well, while I did hold in my various body liquids and functions, I am really impressed by this cannon. I never thought I'd see the day when spudgun's muzzle energies surpassed a good ol' rifle round, but this appears to be it.

Now, the next thing, I say, is to find a good .308 caliber rifle barrel (.30 caliber nominal and 7.62mm metric) and install it. With your lathe-work, I'm sure you could could get some good square threads cut into the receiver for it, and I'd love to see some 300-1000 meter groupings for this rifle. If you can get the barrel mounted square enough and lock-time vibrations down enough, 1000 meters should be no problem to shoot accurately. The .300 H&H magnum and .300 Winchester Magnum (the latter being the newest), are some pretty popular 1000 yard benchresting and target catridges, and this cannon would definitely far surpass their muzzle velocities and energies. It'd be interesting to see how much flatter and straighter the extra velocity makes the trajectory, and how that converts into accuracy.

Again, good job.

EDIT: engrish

Larda, i can't find anything about the strong ass ball valve you broke..

(in the recoil video you can hear that it blows air)

That very much depends. It gets more complicated when you start to heat things. The pressure of everything starts to rise, and that has to be worked around when calculating mix numbers.

If you really wanted to beat the potential for power, I would suggest a dieseling hybrid, not unlike a combustion light gas gun in principle, in that the mix is further pre-compressed, heated and then ignited by a dieseling principle, which would provide a lot of power.
Also, like I suggested above, a Propane/oxy/helium mix has some potential for extreme velocity and power.

The theoretical ultimate would be a Hydrogen/oxy/helium combo at perhaps 1000x mix (possible peak pressures of 150,000 psi) , but that would be really fookin' dangerous (you don't say), and it's not for us to mess with yet, if at all (seriously, don't try it).

Of course, if you were really off your rocker (and I mean really nuts) , and you really wanted to turn into a haze of red mist (or perhaps you'd just gib, I don'y know), then a dieseling version of the same (very very dangerous) would be able to achieve peak pressures over 1,000,000 psi (no mistype).

The energy potential involved there (why am I commentating on my own post?) is perhaps even more dense than powder burners (help, I'm being held captive).

However, this is just speculation, and potentially dangerous speculation at that. If anyone needs a mix of more than 200x, then perhaps they should be looking at alternate propellants (Don't worry, I've subdued the hostage taker).
Major milestone- yes, epitome- lets wait and find out.
In a room temperature, propane-air hybrid, it would be impossible to beat a 200x mix by any great extent, and actually proving that your mix had a genuinely more dense concentration of propane (because that is the true definition of a hybrid mix, rather than the all too variable pressure) than anyone else's would be tough, requiring all kinds of atmospheric data.

It does depend a little on the exact temperature, but why get really fussed about, say, a 204x mix?
It's the same equivalent change for a combustion to have a 1.02x mix, which can easily happen on a cold day, but I don't hear people getting fussed about that.

I heard that too, I was wondering what that was

I think this cannon deserves a mention on the Home Page, if it was entered in the competition there is no doubt in my mind that it would've won.

why don't sticky it as "a small step for a man a giant leep for the spudgunners"? :D
