Jagerbond,
Pushing that fully grown round into a steel target at mach I, clearly proves its durability as well as power! Those are very tough rounds!
Note: Although the vise holding the steel plate in your video is bolted to a table with wheels......the table weighs about 500lbs
jagerbond wrote:Maybe Velocity 3X can chime in here and give us predictions with the NITRON maxed out... I think it can handle 2Kpsi.
The Nitron's fos is 3.4 kpsi (static test). D_hall's calculator shows that using 2kpsi of helium and the same weight projectile.........near 2000 fps is possible.

If the sheet was properly supported on a frame I'm sure the round would have punched straight through with ease. Also it's worth noting that while they are impressive slugs, the sectional density of these rounds is fairly poor, a fin stabilised dart in a sabot should have no problems making it straight through 1/2" plate at least.

JSR,
We
are working towards the dart style rounds. The fins stabilized rounds are almost ready for trials. Patience.

Good to hear, I know I'm constantly going on about darts and projectile optimisation but I'm confident it will be worth seeing your launchers brought to their full potential

I fully agree that a proper frame holding the target plate would have had a more desirable result. The point I was trying to make is that although the plate was improperly supported, the round STILL imparted enough energy to cause the heavy table to roll.

Point taken, but I'm
with the FBI on this one

Did you actually read the video intro, or did you just skip through?
It was Velocity3x's Hungus 44mm.

Deadline has been extended until the end of November.
PCGUY has banned SpudBlaster15 from posting for a week due to some issues. Hence me updating this thread for him.

Awesome, My .25" tool steel dart hit the steel plate at an angle and mushroomed rather epically. Now I have time to acquire more stuff.
Or is that cool enough?

Thank you very much for the deadline extension, I am only operational at my intended capacity as of yesterday, and
this happened today. So yeah... thanks. I will have an entry, and it better be good...

Does it have to be a launcher or can it be some other sort of device? (homemade crossbow)

Using a launcher, ammo, and target that abide by the site's rules, create and film the most impressive and/or creative visual display you can manage.
A homemade crossbow is ok.
