Been up since 7am Friday morning (1:48pm Saturday at the moment) and we've started filming our little short film as we completed the script in the wee hours of the morning.

Well we finished with 12minutes to go. We had to run through a foyer of an events building where they had lined up a few hundred people cheering on each side of a roped pathway all the way to a desk where you hand the film in...was like the end of a triathlon or something

Oh and Peter Jackson (Lord of the Rings director) is apparently a wildcard judge though I think he will only view the short films that make it past the heats.

LOL what I love the most is the HUGE carrying case for the laser...

What's the purpose for such a thing? Too powerful for a sight, not enough to slice your enemies in half... :scratch:

Just for the coolness of it. At the moment, I think the only limitation on sustained power output of such a laser is the ability to pump it.

I recently got a nice 200mw green laser, it's amazing, bu I can only imagine the fun with 5 times the power

I have two CD/Blu ray burning laser diodes. They are red and blue, and they burn! I will let you guys know when I solder them up to some switches and a battery.

My main hobby is electronics. I had a request to build a jeopardy style buzzer board for a non profit organization. I delivered it today. The contestant buttons are doorbell buttons in 3/4 inch pipe caps on a short piece of 3/4 inch PVC pipe. The main box has sets of LED's that the Plexiglas number plug into in the top cover. This permits the contestants to either sit behind the board with the numbers facing the quiz-master and audience, or the board can be rotated so the cables come out the front so the numbers face the contestants. The plexi numbers are painted with Fusion paint on back of the plastic. The game board itself used a high speed clock to index a counter between the players. This prevents a tie as the first button sampled as pressed stops the clock locking out all other contestants and displaying the winner. A second timer does an auto reset after a couple seconds so the board is ready for the next question automatically.

For the electronics types, the board uses a Crystal clock module running at 64KHZ, a CMOS 4017 Decade counter to scan the buttons, A 555 timer to detect the scanned winner, Optocouplers to prevent errors from contestant button cable capacitance, and a set of 2sc1815 transistors to act as high current drivers to light the display as the CMOS does not have enough driver current to drive the display.

When a button is scanned and pressed, it triggers the 555 which sounds the buzzer and disables the count input on the decade counter which enables the display of the winner.

I stained the PVC with my home made primer to add color that won't rub off the buttons.

This could be easily be adapted with photo transistors to score a pine-wood derby for scouts.
