Such a beast..nice spark strip, persplex construction? How large is the gap?
Awesomeness...
Awesomeness...
There are 2 gaps, each about 1/16" wide. Two gaps divide chamber pretty evenly, with each gap handling 1/4th of chamber length to the left and right of each of themselves. Thanks for the compliments.inonickname wrote:Such a beast..nice spark strip, persplex construction? How large is the gap?

I am still newbish and never considered it.CasinoVanart wrote:Can i ask why you went with two bends rather than a co-ax?
haha. I have seen coaxial designs before but they never caught my interest as much as this design. Since my first advanced combustion I fell in love with the over-under design and wanted to make a real nice one with breach loading. Maybe I will work on a coaxial design next, although, unscrewing a chamber cap every shot doesn't quite excite me.psycix wrote:So because of that you just dish out two grand?

The way I found that was easiest was to tear off the tin foil in a sheet about 2" long, and then simply fold it in half long ways until it becomes a square. The pic shows when I first did it and cut around the edges. I stopped doing that. By the time I am done folding there is about 8 layers of tin foil. I was really relieved to see that the cannon's chamber continued to hold pressure. It took some work to get it sealed everywhere.starman wrote:How many layers of foil did you use in that disk? You should try a disk even on a 1x shot. It looks like you should be able to "disk up" some just from the looks of the one you showed there... especially in the 2x.
The 2x did seem to have a much more noticable kick to it. Was that the first 2x shot you had taken? Also the gun looked fairly light weight to handle for its bulk.
Anyway, beautiful scenery to shoot in there. Makes me want to load up for a camping trip now....

I will try your advice on burst discs. Does it really help? I would immagine it does. It seems like letting the pressure build up then suddenly release it all would actually shoot the projectile faster.starman wrote:Fried face and major ear lowering....![]()
Yeah that camlock is great isn't. Have you experimented with layer count? I would experiment with 1x combustions until you can fully contain a shot, then back off a couple of layers. Then for 2x shots use 1.5x layers than you use for 1x. Anymore burst disk than that for your 2X shot will be diminishing returns.
In any case, the gun overall is certainly a great effort...one of the truly few handheld hybrids on the site. You have put some bucks into it, but so what, that's what bucks are for. I sink a good bit into my projects as well.
BTW, a fully contained shot will be silent, so don't be surprised when you dont hear a shot...then just a small rush of warm gases from the ball valve afterward.
