I was hoping to be able to work on mine some this weekend, but I was busy with other stuff. From the looks of it right now, I wouldn't be able to make the current deadline.

Sounds fine to me. The April 12th deadline is already enough for me to finish up what I've got, and even if it's not done ENTIRELY, I have a submission ready to go. It's just refinements at this point.

I'm in. I have been following Btrettel's stuff for quite a while, and I figure this would be a good place to throw my latest project.

Incidentally, is there a limit of one submission per entrant?

I should have something functional in a day or two.

Edit (03-19): I've made some nice progress, but unfortunately I'll have to cut my work short. I'm going to focus more on school now, but I'll definitely have something to show even if I don't revisit what I've done so far before April. :)

I imagine the individual barrels can be loaded from the rear of the turret assembly when they're in the 6 o'clock position, (or at least not in the firing position) correct?

How do you like the Clippard QEV? In my gun, the exhaust port of the QEV is butted right up against the shells without any fittings actually threaded into the port. For my next gun, I intend to connect the QEV to the barrel with an 1/8" fitting similar to what you've done. Does the fitting seem to choke the flow much?

The plan is to be able to load 6 of 8 barrels at once. At worst the top right and top left ones will work.

The Clippard QEV seems good. In a quick test I could easily shoot through two layers of cardboard, indicating to me that its flow rate is very adequate for the job.

I haven't tested the configuration the gun is shown in, but I don't imagine the fitting would restrict flow. The fitting is merely a threaded plug with a hole drilled in it and some rubber (electrical tape temporarily) put on the end.

As I left the gun, my tools, and a few measuring devices (chrono and my dart scale) at my parents', I won't have access to it until early next month, so I can't make any more progress or do any tests until then. (I left the gun there intentionally. Due to me taking food back with me, there was not adequate room in the car. This is what happens when you carpool with your brother.)

Interesting..... I do like the design. It is much more nerf-like than what I've got, but what I've got more approaches the n-strike line they have going. A few design modifications and I could challenge the Longshot for rate of fire and magazine capacity.

But those are ideas for another day. I have pipe to cut! To the dremelcave!

good work trettel, how well does that rotation cam work? did you get it from something else or did you get that built from a CAD drawing?

also I've been inactive for the past few days because I was a home for spring break and I've had trouble posting from home on the internet, I think it has to do with my router's up-link abilities or the stability of the connection

Thanks for the replies.

The cam is from a Nerf Firefly. At this stage having something that I know works is more important than making it myself. Down the road I would like to make a cam with CNC.

actually I think the best cam would be cut from some clear pipe around the outside of the barrels, Nerf doesn't do this on their blasters for aesthetic reasons, but I believe that would be the best place for the cam because it would give the cam the most torque for rotational reliability, and at that size there is a decent flexibility for imprecision for when you cut out the cam

It's worth noting that I'm not trying to make the "best" thing right now... anything that works is okay with me.

That style would be simpler for my design. I could link the trigger directly to the shaft. Fabrication would be expensive with FDM, the rapid prototyping technique I plan to use, so I would look into manual machining. Thanks for the idea. I'll be sure to look into it in more depth in the future.
