I tried her out last Sunday, using 16 bar...
Made me very happy :wink:

Too powerful for my kid I can tell you...

I've made some iron ( brass) sights...made the tunnel for the ramrod, a brass tip for the rod...In the bottom picture it's partially pulled out.

You can barely make out the front sight.It's triangular seen from the front, just a piece of brass..Rear sight is fixed.

And I made a buttplate out of brass pipe.
I cut it, folded it open,( PITA!!) flattened it and hammered it into shape by hand.
Like panelbeating..?
The edges are now curled.
I really enjoyed the process.

Not a perfect fit and you can clearly see it's been hammered...but I kinda like it..
Only time will tell how well I can clean it up.

I'll fix up the damaged paint later after I completed the fit to the stock.

The buttplate can be rotated after the centre screw is removed by hand.
The other bolt will be replaced by something better suited for the job.

Superb. Sometimes I also "unfold" tubes to get foils :D
It's a great idea to have the ramrod incorporated, for a coaxial :)

It was the only way to get a piece large enough...but I'm not satisfied.
I want a perfect fit.
..so I might be doing some more hammering...or scrap it the minute I find something better.

I'll think it over first..I'm starting to wear myself out.

I do realise that the brass tip I had wanted to do under the barrel can't be done now that the ramrod is there.
It would be too hard to pull out the rod...unless I'd have it stick out even further, wich I don't like...
maybe I'l make some sort of brass thingy just to finish the theme, but I won't be extending the stock slightly past the muzzle to get the "massive-agressive" look I'd like.
It's just not functional.

Edit: Oh...and thanks for the kind words...just what I needed to get out of my depressed state of mind caused by overexhaustion.. :D

No but I'm surprised that no one have incorporated one in a coaxial.

I can't imagine it being a spudfiles first... :roll:

It just makes sense to do so...for this build especially, but every coax should have it really...

It's not the surface I'm worried about, it's the rounded edge not fitting the stock properly and the lack of sufficient thickness.
A 100% fit would give it enough support against the stock but without it, the 1mm thickness means it's wobbly.

I'll get it right, just not sure when.

Nice! You should finish the paint though.

From a steampunk forum:
Model paints from hobby shops can work great, be sure to give the bits you're planning on painting a dark base coat (usually black), and then a heavily thinned wash of the black (or black + metallic color) once the main coat has dried. The wash will help give the illusion of deeper cracks and seams, and provide a bit of grunge to look like the camera has been used a lot.

This method works well. You could also consider applying a heavy drybrush of antique bronze over the black basecoat, followed by antique gold and then a light flick over with brass to pick out the "worn" areas that would be shinier than the rest of the finish on real brass. Depending on how old you want it to look, apply more or less gold before the brass.

A lot of it depends on the texture and shape of the piece to be painted. Here's a Nerf gun I did with the method described above to give you an idea of what I mean.

Seems like I'll have to do a little touch-up anyway..
I had to take her apart.

The piston got reduced to shreds...I used several layers of thin rubber and washers as the main body.I glued an O-ring to the front, slightly larger than the required diameter so it would hug the walls.
Logically, the superglue dissolved because of lubricants..


Anyway.
I sharpened a scrap section of the outer reservoir tube and cut a new piston out of solid 1/4"rubber.I backed it with a metal washer.

As I had opened her up anyway...I decided to insert a second tube into the barrel, reducing caliber to 8mm....perfect for some rubber toy bullits I have a lot of.
The double layered barrel should be able to withstand a lot more pressure safely too.

I also extended the barrel a little as I realised I had way more piston movement than was nessecary...thus reducing pilot volume to the absolute minimum making it very responsive to the hammer.
I could probably ( an educated guess) pilot it at 30 bar easily.
Maybe more.

I just fired it at 18 bar and this thing is a beast.
Did 6 very powerful shots and it doesn't seem to be losing much power yet.
Dented a steel toolbox..took the paint right off.

I'm wondering how much damage I would get with lead projectiles....
