Whats the difference if it explodes or not...its been done before. Sure, its probably more dangerous than the usual fuels...but if you do it safely and without your head up your ass you are fine.

ARE YOU RETARDED??????HYDROGEN AND OXYGEN ARE EXPLOSIVE!!!!!!IF YOU WERE TO MAKE IT DONT MAKE IT OUT OF STEEL BECAUSE THE HYDROGEN BURNING WILL CREATE METHANE OUT OF THE CARBON IN THE STEEL AND WILL THIN YOUR BARREL.
hairspray is explosive, propane is explosive, butane is explosive, lots of things are explosive and are commonly used as fuels. sure it may be a bit more dangerous but as long as i use metal that can stand up to the pressure ill be fine, now pvc would be suicide on the other hand. second from what i have learned hydrogen burning will not react with coated steels such as galvanized and the process is so slow that it would take years of constant exposure to hydrogen to do even a little damage. third my barrel thinning is the least of my worries the barrel wont even need to take all the much pressure the chamber is the important part.

how much oxygen and hydrogen would you need for a .5in by 8in chamber?

depends on the pressure you want it to be at at normal atmospheric levels you would need very little, just set the cannon over a electrolysis machine and saturate the chamber with the gases. electrolysis machines give you the perfect mixture for combustion so you don't have to worry about metering the hydrogen and oxygen separately.

Well you could fill the chamber with water and let the gas bubble in, when all the water has been forced out it is full.
