I was wondering how is it going on with the project?. Have you already started building a part?

Nope, its on hold. Actually, I was radically redesigning. I will post more designs within a day or two. I have been thinking about the slide (sleeve) valve, and how to improve. Specifically, a response trigger. When this type of trigger is depressed, it fires and rebounds, pushing itself into an "at rest" position. All you have to do is maintain finger pressure against the trigger for full auto. Basically, the trigger moves back and forth by itself very rapidly until you let go.

Update time. I have been thinking about the sleeve valve 3-way trigger. Here's a picture of the normal sleeve valve, where the pilot air exhausts to the atmosphere.

Image

What if this air was harnessed? It could be directed to pressurize the helical mag, cycle a bolt, or achieve (almost) auto fire. If you are familiar with paintball, a response trigger is similar to a normal one, except that it pushes back against your finger after it has been pulled, in order to reset itself. AS long as finger pressure is maintained, the trigger moves back and forth rapidly, making for a near-auto rate of fire. This is used as a loophole in some field's "no automatics" rules.

Here is the spudders equivalent. See any problems? (Exhaust tube needs more surface area?) Has this been thought of before, and I am just ignorant of it?

There are enough plans on Spudfiles to keep you designing for about one year, you should start with a simple concept and build it. You can always modify it with new internals, I have the problem too that I design more than build :D .

Nice Hailfire753, really good designs.

nothing personal hubb017 but I've almost made the XM-500 Paintball Sniper.
Its made out of steel with a mod sprinkler valve, just like the picture I've made a silencer and bought a scope off ebay (pretty cheap $40).

haha not that any of that really matter here,
but yeah i think you should do it.

Well, I've got together most of the materials, and have begun assembly.
So far, I turned the barrel down to sleeve into 1" sch 40 pvc, modded the ammo feed tee, cut some pipe and dry fitted stuff together.

The paintballs have an excellent fit into the 3/4" sch 120 pvc. Using the barrel like a blowgun, the paint broke easily from 10 yards away. GGDT says I need about 50 psi to achieve 300 fps with the 3' barrel and 1' chamber.

I have yet to machine the bolt to fit, and I still need to get o-rings and other small parts. I am worried about fitting a spring, o-ring, and blocker wire inside of the bolt, and also about it's small surface area. It has an area of .4917" squared, so 50 psi will result in about 25 pounds of force on the bolt.

Also, will the air from the 3/8" slide valve (with 1/2" sleeve) be enough to fill the 12" by 3/4" chamber 8 times a second at 50 psi?

I love this! I really like you you've designed it to fit in the shape of a real sniper! I just found spudfiles, looking for a paint ball sniper rifle and i came upon gold. I like your design a lot, but for the first rifle (not XM-500) i was thinking about a way to make it bolt action from your design, but with a magazine instead of a hopper in order to mount a real scope on top. I came up with this:

(This is one of my first times posting on a forum, please excuse me if the image doesn't work properly or is terrible quality)

Another question of mine is how effective is this gun at, say 150psi. what sort of fps would be expected at that pressure, and how many shots could you possibly fire before having to refill the tank? (please reply )

Ohmagawd above standard grammar! I think I just creamed myself..

Use the direct link for images, it will show up as a larger image with higher quality, rather than a thumbnail. I don't know he'll run it at very high pressures, as paintball fields will limit the FPS he's allowed on the gun.

Welcome to spudfiles.

Well, I can't see the picture. around 30 psi would result in 300 fps.
