Hey guys, this is my first semi, as well as my first small caliber gun. I found an old finishing nailer in the basement, and decided to take it apart one night and it slowly turned into a piston semi over about a week.

Specs:
-.50 caliber
-1 inch barrel sealing piston
-Full metal construction (aluminum, steel, copper)

The battery also shattered the glass that this top was attached to on the first shot










most of these shots were at 50-80 psi from 4-6 feet away...

and by semi, I mean that it can fire as fast as you can pull the trigger, not at 4 second intervals or something like that.

so whaddayathink?

Very nicely done how about some detail of your ammo and feed system tho?

Nxi had done something similar on spudtech here but the mods don't seem as extensive as yours. I had bought a nailgun myself for the purpose of modifying it but I couldn't bring myself to take it apart

Experament: It's just a barrel sealing piston valve with 1/4 inch travel. Releasing the trigger pilots the piston via pre-made channels in the gun. And I will post a video as soon as my brother comes home and lets me use his camera again...

Jack: I have yet to make a loading system, and also to buy marbles that fit, but as of now I'm just using AA batteries.... since its only semi, can't you just use a vertical tube the lets the marbles fall into the barrel?

thanks for the comments..I like to keep my cannons clean and "factory" looking..I have a lot of old parts that I collect whenever I take things apart, like old rc cars, nail guns, things with o rings...

About 3 feet by 1 foot, and for the loading mechanism, can't i just use a threaded tube with a cap?

Yeah you can, but if there is enough air it will suck more then one marble out of the grav-feed mag, you may need to use a flap or something similar to close the mag off and only let one round into the barrel.

as long as the tube is the same diameter as the barre, you can have something like this:

so is the o-ring is just for a seal, or to make the ammo have to squeeze through so you don't double feed?

The o-ring is simple there to prevent the ammo from falling out of the barrel.

The theory is this: on firing, the air pressure will push the projectile out of the barrel, while at the same time (since the ammo is the same diameter as the tube) preventing the other rounds from following it. when the air pressure goes down, the spring pushes another round in place and you're set to go again.

Of course this only really works for spherical ammo, what were you planning on using?

ahhhh I see...but wouldn't Bernoulli's principle create suction in the magazine instead of pressure that keeps the ammo in ?

and for ammo right now I'm using batteries, but I will use marbles when I can find them...

It shouldn't create suction unless you have a constant flow. The magazine on my Yunker 2 works in exactly the same way.

The problem with batteries is that even if you create a rectangular magazine in which they fit exactly, the fact that they have a raised positive terminal means that air will still flow past it.

which country do you live in Jack? I take it it's in Europe as your loacation is set as EU.

BTW, thats a nice gun.How much did it cost you all up to make.And how long?
