I was looking on the bottom of a 4" diameter endcap that I got from homedepot, and it says "1NSF-Pw1" ... I was wondering if this is the same as NFS-Pw. (I assume it is...) Thanks. I was also wondering if NFS-DWV is the same as NFS-Pw, which I doubt because it has DWV on it. Thanks also...

NFS-DWV and NFS-PW are certaintly different!

DWV is Drain Waste Vent IIRC. It is for gravity flow applications and therefore NOT suitable for a pressurized system(i.e. a pneumatic spudgun)

PW is Pressurized Water(?) and is meant to handle water pressure.

But ask someone more experienced like noname...

What's the ASTM rating on it? If it's pressure rated schedule 40 it should say D2466.

NSF ratings are for sanitation purposes, believe it or not. If you want to get technical and split hairs, you COULD have a pressure rated fitting that is rated by the NSF as DWV, and you could have a non pressure-rated fitting that is rated by the NSF as PW. Not very likely, but it's not wrong.

DWV is for Drain, Waste, and Vent. PW is for Potable Water.

There is DWV copper that is often rated for over 200 psi. I have never seen a non-pressure rated PW fitting, but they probably do exist. For PVC pipe however, DWV essentially means no pressure rating, or a very low one (5-15 psi or so).

Does the pipe have a pressure rating? If it has a pressure rating you are most definitely fine.

He was asking about a fitting, not a piece of pipe. They don't print pressure ratings, (as in xxx PSI), on fittings.

It does scare me that this cap came from Home Depot, though. If it does say ASTM D2466, then I guess it's good then. As a final test, can you measure the socket depth right quick?
