Silicon Rubber Sealant

well i have been searching around the house and i noticed this. It is a Silicon rubber sealant and i have heard that silicon rubber is not a bad sealant for a piston, actually i heard it was really good but it there was a downfall but i dont remember it. So anyway, my question was will this work as a sealant? or can i make a silicon rubber face out of this and use that to seal the barrel? or would i just put it on the front of my piston, let it dry, and then i would have a sealing face? Well you guys tell me. Here be some pics. (I know that i said that incorrectly but i like to say it like that).

The silicone will not have good tensile strength and can and will rip under intense loads and pressure.

Sorry hub i didnt really bother to search but i have searched b4 about silicon. I just wasnt sure if this was the right one that thtey talk about because i just found it lying around.

EDIT: Yea but spudgunneryyyy, you also mentioned in other topics that the silicone wasnt a bad sealant and he should have put a washer on it. Check the first link hubb wrote, and the check the first comment of that and click that link. You're in there somewhere

If you could find a way to hold it to the piston, it would work great. Apparently, it tends to rip off with the force and shoots out the barrel. If you can find a way to secure it to the piston and make it last, well, it will probably work better than neoprene (due to imperfections).

Use nylon reinforce neoprene. For some reason osh has it.

Yea well lets hope i can get that far, then another improvement in pistons once again. From Felt to a sturdy silicone Ill update you if it works, but first i gotta get my piston cannon working, and if the piston sealant is the problem, then ill use silicone. And also how do you mold silicone? Is it the same way you mold epoxy or hot glue?

yup same thing, just remember, when u get silicone on ur hands, dont wash, take a paper towl and just wipe it away..if u wash, it only makes it worse.

Silicone sealant is only used as a sealant for liquid applications and wont work well for high pressure air applications ....It may work ok to seal very small air gaps if applied and then compressed tightly between 2 even surfaces , but overall it is too plyable for air pressure applications......It will not last long as a sealing face for a piston as it will cut and tear after repeated use...If you use silicone sealant for anything , make sure you look for a packaging date as it has a 1 year shelf life and will not cure at all after the date has expired .....I know , I make the stuff.
