I was just browsing McMasters website the other day, looking for parts for upcoming projects when I saw this:
5/8" stainless steel tubing (marble barrel), item number 1991T15
(copy/paste)
Now look at the price.
$108 for 6 fucking inches!
Is this some kind of mistake? I haven't looked through mcmaster that much, but surely they can't possibly expect anyone to buy from them with prices like that.

I doubt it is a mistake, those are very fine tolerances, and that costs big money.

Ragnarok is right, that is not generic steel tubing, it is designed for shims, bushings etc.
The tight tolerances on these smooth, low-friction materials allow you to increase or decrease a shaft/rod diameter size. They also fit inside each other to increase more than one wall thickness. Use high-speed steel or carbide blades to cut to a specific length for a bushing, spacer, shim, or sleeve bearing.
Your basic 5/8" (OD) stainless steel tubing is $3.36/foot (8989K27). Steel tubing is even cheaper.

On an unrelated note
there is no C in the correct Norse spelling of it people!
Neither is there an R, a, g, n, o, or k, considering it's a runic alphabet

Call the FBI, we got a hijacker ^
This is 5/8 (.625) ID tubing. It is similar to conduit in dimension, but stronger.
I see .62", which will probably work for smaller marbles, and for $22 / 6 feet. I'll have to check locally to see if there's anything cheaper. Shipping and all, >$30 is a lot for a barrel.
Still, I don't know how they manage to sell the expensive stuff.

Ok, point me at a site where I can buy a runic keyboard then. Just after you've done that, tell me honestly I wouldn't then be referred to as "The member formally known as Ragnarok".
The correct spelling doesn't contain a C, and a lot of people were saying "Ragnarock", which as well as being wrong, uses up an extra key press - as people usually just call me Rag (good for getting confused with a small piece of cloth used for cleaning up grease or other stuff), or sometimes on very rare occasions 'Rok, because they're shorter, I thought I'd save them that key press.
... I looked again, there's a zero more in those tolerances than I thought there was - that's a mere 1/200th of a millimetre. My digital vernier callipers can't measure that precisely!
As for the hijacker, I will selflessly throw myself from the thread and drag the offender out with me. I may choose to giggle all the way to the ground. Now, watch out for the explosive decompression.

I know, just being my usual pedant

though a runic keyboard would certainly be cool
