Superfast valve idea

Just came my mind, and I think that valve could be pretty fast if it works.[/img]

Basically a piston valve where the pneumatic pilot is replaced by a mechanical latch, it should work brilliantly if you can make the latch strong enough. I made something similar (but in coaxial form) with
this launcher.

Probably would be. Problem is it's focusing a large piston face of pressure on a small sear. Bit like a springer air gun.
If you can machine up a good sear mechanism it'd work

Good analogy, I had made my components out of metal reinforced epoxy (what else

) and they served me well, but the piston was less than 3/4" diameter - for larger launchers I would stick to a conventionally piloted piston, and concentrate of having a small pilot volume and high flow pilot to get good performance.

its been done before, I've been thinking about doing this for awhile because I like the speed
how might you plug one of these into ggdt, do you think maybe a pilot equal to the piston diameter

The trigger is basically just a flush handle for a urinal. You can probably buy one.

the actual trigger or the release mechanism, I don't think anyone would have trouble making a handle but a flush handle and the release mechanism are completely different, a flush handle is just a lever the sides on the inside and outside of the toilet tank, to pull a the flapper I find nothing useful in a flash handle for this

Not a flush handle from a toilet, a flush handle from a urinal. They do function similar to the diagram, only holding back water instead of air.

Another idea is to use some sort of ball-bearing release mechanism around the circumference of the piston. Allows more distribution of the force on the piston, as well as being easy to actuate as well with a simple lock collar.

*cue link to clide's mini-pump*
but I can't be bothered, it's the holidays and I'm sick at home

this suddenly reminds me of an old idea
edit: how about this

hmm looks complicated lol, could make for a fast bb gun...
