I was visiting an old armoury, one of the guns on display was an early airgun with a copper ball reservoir, just like the ones shown here.

This is really a sporting/recreational rifle, unlike say the Girandoni. That totally wouldn't give away your position.
In all fairness, it's full of airThat thing would be a bit** to aim with all that weight to one side.
Considering the materials and tools they had at their disposal at the time, antique airguns are amongst the most intricate and sophisticated weapons of their time, I'm sure they could have taught us a thing or too!Imagine what they could have done with a bit of expert help from this forum!

Rubber is not an ideal pressure chamber material. It can inflate and deflate yes... but unless you contain it with a rigid outer chamber it keeps ON expanding as you increase the pressure and a rigid outer chamber would totally defeat the point.pizlo wrote:has anyone ever tried using a set or balloons or more practically some type of deflatable pressure chamber?

It's probably similar to the Girandoni:carter wrote:It's cool. Does anyone know how the valve works?
