Hey, has any one heard of the works bomb? it uses a tolit bowl cleaner and aluminum foil to creat pressures that blow a bottle up, its builds up hydrogen, well im wondering if yoou can use this concept for high pressure pnuematics? mabey hybrids since its hydrogen :D has anyone tried this? heres a vid i found to show you the pressures.

yes i have tried it, take a look for yourself.

Done in a 2 liter pop bottle

It works pretty well and i have seen it made into a cannon. Its really simple. All it is, it a barrel, then you shove the bottle down it, then the ammo. The explosion shoots the barrel out.

But i didnt know it makes hydrogen. Guess thats why my grass got orange

For hybrid use it is possible, but it may cause complications. But you can try something like a electrolysis machine but make it usable for the purpose of collecting hydrogen. You just gotta watchout for pressure buildup

Maybe with a burst disk valve you could utilize this reaction. You'd need some chemical resistant piping, like epoxy-lined steel.

the hydrocloric acid in the tolit cleaner dissovles the alumminum foil creating lots of hydrogen faster then a eletrosys machine that orange stuff is toxic  it burnt some of my floor :D

Shame that the recation is so slow, otherwise it would have made an interesting cartridge

its about 1-2 minutes :D got any ideas jsr? can someone test this in a controlled experiment to see how much psi this reaction can create? im scared :D and remember this is toxic to breath

If it can blow a soda bottle that's at least 200 psi

i think this creates oxygen and not hydrgen.

no its creates hydrogen because i used it in a beer bottle and put a balloon over it and it filled the balloon then i popped the balloon with a lighter and there was a huge fireball.

Do you think they're still accepting entries for the 2007 Darwin Awards? :P :D

you could do that but it would be hard you would need a good burst disk that can hold pressure but also pops before the bottle does. or you could use a metal chamber and use the dry ice and water mixture. because if you use a soda bottle it wont last long because the pressure will weaken it.

I wouldn't reccoment making a hydrogen bomb (not that one), but mabye it could be used as a reliable source of H2 for a spudgun?

I dont see why instead of doing the entire works bomb thing just put some dry ice in the chamber and some water to speed it up.If you put it in a bottle the bottle blows up in about 10-30 seconds depending on how much dry ice you use.

Because CO2 is a horrible propellant, dry ice is expensive and difficult to obtain, and the gas created is so cold it makes steel pipe brittle.

With an HCl + Al reaction (which this isn't), the gas produced is warm hydrogen, the best pneumatic propellant there is. The only problem is the aluminum chloride which remains in the chamber, along with any leftover aluminum or hydrogen chloride (because it is unlikely that the mix will be perfect). That, and the fact that high pressure hydrogen damages steel, stainless steel, aluminum, titanium, and copper piping, so you essentially need a pipe with a inner coating of something like epoxy to make it safe.

Most of you guys misunderstood the concept.

You put the mixture in the chamber, not in the bottle.

But that was the problem i was expecting because i heard you talking b4 about how hydrogen is damaging to the chamber.
