Hi all,

I have seen 20mm pre threaded poly pipe in ozzieland's bunnings warehouse. Seen as it is in aus probs a better question for the aussies on here but anyway.

Is this pipe allright for a barrel on a 1" modded sprinkler valve and a 40cm long 2" chamber operating at 120psi?

It is listed as sprinkler popup pipe, so im guessing it is as it needs o hold water pressure.

I'd say so, ive seen a few guns built out of poly pipe, but its more expensive then pressure rated parts. Good old bunnon them ings ey, lol i rely for everything

Barrels only need to take pressure for a brief moment, and it's invariable less that what's in your chamber, so I'd be comfortable using non-pressure rated parts - as long as you're not planning on using projectiles that are 100% airtight which have to be hammered in to fit.

i was actually going to use poly pipe because of its softer plasic that would be easy to rifle. Would spuds be ok for ammo?

well, define "ok" - they're ok because they're cheap and easy to obtain, but not ok because of their poor density and ballistic shape.

Also ok because outside they can practically atomise themselves on impact and are nice'n biodegradeable. Not such a good idea inside.

As for ok with poly pipe, absolutely no reason not to.

I know that spuds are an ok ammo in general lol im not that much of a noob that i have to ask if spuds work with spudguns lol

im thinking a 2 meter barrel, does that sound allright with my chamber stated in my first post?

Sounds about right, though you can afford to make it bigger if you want.

I'm not so sure rifling would be entirely effective if you're using taters as projectiles. If you had wax projectiles that could get into the grooves better I'd say yes, but I'm just not so sure about taters.

hmm rifling a barrel... well i think you need ammo that grips the rifling so i would look at air rifle pellets tails which expand to grip the rifling (correct me if i'm wrong?) i wander if this would be effective with spuds? as for the rifling itself i would use multiple shallow grooves to increase the effect of the rifling instead of one deep one.

Yea, the pellets tails mold to the grooves. A wax pellet could do the same, especially if you warmed it up a bit to soften it.

maybe a reusable rubber tail hmmm

and i did some more reasearch into rifling and i think that you need atleast 6 shallow grooves for effective rifling...
