Ok basically when u turn the hand it will turn the rifling rod and a string/cable will pull the barrel over the rifling rod

If you could find a way to make sure that if the barrel slowed down, the rifling mechanism slowed down, it might just work. Otherwise your rifling is going to be thrown off.

one is worked from the other so if one slows down the other must

why would the barrel slow down maby if the string / cable snaped that the only way i can think of it slowing down

This is a quite good idea (I think)
You could experiment with different "rotating speed:pulling speed" ratio's to get the right angle of rifling.

But how does the head of the rifling rod itself look like?

well i need to test differnt ways but so far i have screws in dif dircections or differnt length metal pins sharpend at both ends so i can rifle in stages

As it is drawn the pipe will move forward very little for each revolution of the cutter, which would give something that would more closely resemble threads. To get a good rifling rate the shaft that the rope wraps around needs to be a large diameter (about 19" in diameter if you want 1 revolution every 60" which is a decent rate). Of course once you do that the shaft will become quite hard to turn depending on how much you are cutting, so you may need to put in some gearing if you want to be able to crank it by hand.

Other than that it should work. I remember seeing one quite similar to that awhile ago, although I don't remember where it was.

Rifling is a science not something you can guess at and get a good answer, there’s no “when in doubt, charley out”.
Trust me I’ve spent far too many hours trying to find the “easy” way.

Give me a few days to get some pictures and see if the barrel actually works, and I’ll post my rifling machine, which is so simple it’s scary.

I was just giving that as an example rate rather than the several rotations per inch that something like the drawing would probably produce.

as your picture is drawn, the more cable that is drawn up, the rate of your rifling will change. you will be pulling your barrel faster towards you. the diameter of your cable pulley should stay the same and not increase with every turn of the handle.

a solution would be to wrap the cable twice around the rifling shaft pulley and then to a separate hand crank. this should prevent the increasing diameter.

years ago a gun company experimented with progressive rifling and wasn't successful, in the broadest sense of the word. the idea was scrapped. smith & wesson i think.

ya it was just a quick diagram so u could c wat i was talking about if i do make it i will make the thing the cable go on bigger and longer so i don't have that problem. well maby if i can get it to work i can sell it to them lol
