the epoxy i bought does not seem to work, so i was wondering if it would be possible to just fill the hole with a glue from a hot glue gun? if not, what other substances can be used that i might find laying around my house?

the stuff i bought is one container, that has two holes at the top. I pressed both equally until it was full and then i swirled it around and it has not dried yet after two days...

Depending on how thick it is, it will take longer to dry.
I used plumbers epoxy for my first one. It said it dries in 24 hours and gets hard like steel. But it didnt finish drying until the 3rd day. So you just gotta wait it out.

I've heard that the solenoid is a bit leaky, and that can REALLY mess up your valve.

the solinoid in my modded valve held 100psi for 3 hours with only a 10 psi drop because of a leaky valve to begin with

I've never had that problem.
