I have built a pneumatic gun, and I have solvent welded it with primer and cement. I made sure to put an even layer of cement.

But is was pretty jelly-like, and I realized that this is bad now.

So my question is will I still be safe, I made sure to spread it evenly and apply pressure.

Did you read the Wiki artical? It's saposed to get soft so that it flows together, the two pieces your welding together.

The primer made it soft, but the cement was a jelly consistency.

Do you mean the glue was jelly like?

If it's reasonably stiff jelly, (like when you try and put it on the pipe it doesn't break up very easily) then it's probably over the use-by date or it dried up.

Or if it has little chunks of glue in it, it probably is over the use-by date too.


Personally I wouldn't say it's safe.

Do you see the Wiki button up top of the page? Click on that and type "solvent welding" in the search box when you get there. 1st time I went to the Wiki I was exploring for probly 2 hours. The cement is saposed to be a little thick. Does it stil run off the dober when you lift it out of the can?

It didn't run off the dober, it was a consistency of jam. Thank for the help, I appreciate well thought out answers.

MrCrowley probly hit the nail on the head, your cement is probly out of use by date. You also mite want to go to www.ipex.com they have a free online training course all about solvent welding. It will teach you about use by dates and climet conditions and such.
