The Lowdown
Hezzo. I have had my basic noobie combustion cannon for about a year now and have always been thinking about ways to improve it. I was on Cumberland Island ( my natural firing range ) one week and thought to cut a potato in half ( reduce the mass ), cut around the tip to form some primitive nose-cone like you would see on some cruise missile ( streamline it ) and rifle it ( i dont know, make it more accurate? ) and these did manage to slightly improve performance.
I was surfing around the intertubes one day and found a really interesting story. I don't know if it's true, but apparently this man made 7 basic combustion cannons, arranged them in a circle and fastened them together. He then made a crude mount out of two-by-fours and mounted the whole contraption to the back of a pickup. Then, using a spark plug hooked up to his car's distributer made a crank that could make what some would call a "Gattling Gun". Obviously this would have incredible destruction power but a long reload rate. I was just wondering about the logistics involved in the construction of such a device.
I was on a tangent and started researching spud guns and ended up here. I started reading and heard about Hybrid cannons, breaking the sound barrier, and all sorts of stuff the is apparently common knowledge within groups of experianced cannoneers like yourselves.
The internet ( aside from this community ) wasnt much help, hurling scientific goolah all over my face, so i was wondering if some kind-hearted noob-lover could give the lowdown on advanced stuff. I really would appreciate it, thanks.

Have you searched the wiki here (upper right portion of screen). It has a lot of information that is easier to find. It will be able to answer most of your questions. If not, just ask.
It seems to me that you are leaning towards combustions. Check for propane injection, chamber fan, stun gun ignition.
As far as hybrids go, they are basically a supercharged combustion launcher.
Now, pneumatics, on the other hand, are totally different. They use compressed air instead of a combustion.
I know this is somewhat brief. Just check out the wiki and ask any questions you may have.
Welcome to Spudfiles.

Welcome! It's nice to know that SOME users research on their own before joining forums all willy-nilly!
Any advanced concepts you could ever need to know can be found here: http://www.spudfiles.com/spud_wiki/.
As for the gatling gun, it's an interesting concept, but it seems difficult to the point that it wouldn't be worth the effort to make one. If you could link us to the source of that idea, that'd be great. What I can tell you is that you could achieve similar results (In terms of power) from an automatic pneumatic rifle, and this is much more reliable. For an example, see this: (My personal Holy Grail of pneumatic cannons) http://www.spudfiles.com/forums/gb-semi-t7899.html.
Spend some time reading the wiki! It'll help!

I will give you the lowdown.
Welcome to Spudfiles
We are always glad to gain new members, certain things are expected though.
1. Use the search feature
2. Use the wiki
3. Repeat
4. Repeat again
If after reading roughly 24 hours worth of material you still can't find your answer the members here will bend over backwards (nearly) to help you.
I have not been privy to the gatling gun on the back of a truck thing i don't think but the idea is completely feasible.
Edit: I am too slow to respond and as such should be taken out and shot, quick like..

America, the greatest gangster of all time. With 200 million odd foot soldiers at it's whim and call.
When you fill your car with refined oil remember that it has been paid for with blood and guts, some from your own countrymen, most not.

No problem.
Did your internet adventures lead you to the Gadget Freak Case #103? It seems to be pretty close to what you described earlier.

Take gander over at Latke's pages for the complete rundown on advanced combustions here: http://www.burntlatke.com ... The same info can be found here and other places on the net, but he's got it laid out very well with ballistic test data to show expected performance.
The spudfiles community takes those concepts and expands on them. Another site http://www.spudtech.com is older but is no longer operating. Only archives of old discussions are available there. However, many old "Spudtechers" live and breathe on these Spudfile pages today.
The multi-chamber gatlin sounds like it would be a logistical bear to operate properly. Another idea along that line is the "revolver" here http://www.advancedspuds.com/revolverx.htm It uses a single barrel and chamber but with a revolving disk of "spud cartridges"...
Lots to see around here. Welcome aboard!

I think, instead of a really complex hybrid or something, i'm gonna make a modern "Warwolf" combustion cannon and see how far i can get a potato.
For those of you who don't know, the Warwolf was a gargantuan trebuchet used by the French ( i think ) in the hundred years war.

Edit: I lied, it was built in Scotland by order of an English King.

Oh...shows what i know lol. I was gonna build a 10 foot trebuchet over the summer then i realized i was in the burbs and my Nazi neighbors wouldn't like the idea of a medieval siege engine in firing range of their house... thanks for the correction.
Edit: Hah, i was still wrong.
Another Edit: your my new best friend on this forum lol

Be sure and post pics when you build it!

By the way, the screws that arc electricity in my combustion always get the residue from Aquanet ( best fuel comes from the old lady department at Wal-Mart ) and its hell to clean out from all the little things that stick out of the side of the screw. Will nails work jsut as well as screws? they seem like they would be alot easier to clean...

You could still build one. A great decoration for the coffee table, and what a conversation piece! (Great fun at partys too!)
