I've want to make a pneumatic sniper rifle, so i've been brainstorming about the "Spring powered ball valve". I want to ask you guys if this is a good idea...

It's much easier and more effective to mod a sprinkler valve.

there is no store in my region that sells a sprinkler valve.. but what kind of store sells these valves?

JSR is right, it is much easier to mod a sprinkler valve, heck its probably easier to make a piston valve for that matter, but I'm having fun making a spring loaded ball valve. I'm accually using it as an exaust for a piston valve, but it will probably work as good as the piston valve itself by the time I'm done...

I made something like that but not totally pvc and I had similar problems but did you you think of the the piece of iron going at high velocity near the scope.and if you don't put something to stop the valve from turning more than 90 degrees the small normal stopper will break.

Ah a pneumatic ram actuated one.

Well if you can build an pneumatic ram then you can build a piston.
If you can build a piston then you can build a piston valve!
If you can build a piston valve then you can trash your ballvalve

that's what I will do (I made topic on that)
I like the design but I will make it from metal and with a piston
there is only one problem: I can't find 45 degree angles in the right diameter
but you're thinking good before you post I like that

Ya, but by "opening" do you mean "opened as designed" or as "the entire gun disintegrated"?


Back to the OP, trying to open a ball valve quickly is really a futile thing to attempt. In the long run, moding a sprinkler valve, or using a stock sprinkler valve, or building a valve from scratch is going to work better and be easier.

It's good to see that one of us finally tried it.

And if possible, I want to see a picture of whatever was left of the valve and the ram afterward
