I was searching on mcmaster just a little while ago and i was looking at the rubber section and i found rubber balls!

I think that they possibly may be good pre-made pistons because they will probable seal well and sizes are up to 8".

Im just worried about the weight as the balls get larger in size.

they are pretty cheap as well.

What do you guys think?

Example: 9957K15 on Mcmaster

they should work if you can find good t's for them to fit in, spose thed also eliminate the need of o-rings .

Im just worried about, as i said before, the weight may be to heavy for the air to push.

It would have to be really heavy for the air not to be able to move it backwards; the main problem is that that material has a lot of friction, which might hold it back. However, a healthy serving of white lithium grease should do the job.

if you guys think that this is feasible, i might buy it to replace my current piston i have in my 4 inch cannon.

I think it would perform better but i am a little worried about a seal because at one time i had my piston with a rounded sealing face and that leaked a little but i got that fixed with a washer.

My current piston has friction on the sides on it when pushing the piston into the housing but then later gets easier. i did put white lithium grease on but i think it need so be a "Healthy Serving" just as velocity said.

if it is too heavy, you could drill holes all over the place and fill them with something lighter

OR high damage ammo ! lol

I say you should buy and try
if it doesn't work you still have a funny thing
but what do you think about using it for ammo(just a few because of the price)

If you sand the end of your barrel "true" to the bore of the tee , you should never have a problem with sealing.

Time consuming... yes, but it works.

I don't think that rubber balls would work so well as pistons. Flat sealing faces have worked well for me; anything curved at all can cause leaks.

Sounds like a good idea to try.
And reminds me of JSR's pengun of course.
But I don't think the toy ones would work because they aren't very sturdy.
But all this does give me an ammo idea. 8)

The one i am talking about isnt a toy one, its from Mcmaster, i doubt its a toy.

That's why I was saying it sounds like a good idea to try.
But the actual idea made me think about the toy ones.
And maybe using them for ammo.
