Well my neighbors are moving and have a big dumpster out next to their house were they put all there random stuff they aren't taking with them.
I decided to take a look
And I found more then I was looking for

All this was found in the dumpster including the 10lb fire exstiquisher that says pressure tested to 595psi on the side
Image

Another view, i found lots of garden tools
Image

And a list of things i found

A box of 50 hot glue sticks
2 6ft lengths of 3/4in black steel pipe
1 4ft length of 1/2in black steel pipe
a rake
a broom
a weird garden tool I don't know the name of
a big a$$ hammer
4ft long wooden dowel that fits perfect in 1in pvc
10lb fire exstinquisher pressure tested to 595psi
a almost full roll of teflon tape
2 empty spray paint cans(targets)

And the things that weren't pictured

A fairly nice pair of hearing protection(didn't expect to find that in a dumpster)
a messed up hoe(no dirty jokes)
a nearly full tank of propane
a 1/8in tap

So the point of this post is to encourage you to leave sanity behind and throw yourself in that dumpster. Never know what you might find

You know what I found a full fire exstinguisher in a dumpster before I asked my parents if I could take it they said no you can't have that you will make a mess every where as you can probably tell I'm pissed off. true story! My parents are like that pretty annoying.

sthorne:Not really
Im sure you could get similar if you just went on a quest for a dumpster and then threw yourself in.

Though i probably was a little lucky in the awsomely usefulness of my finds

sticky_tape:Well mine wasnt full but if it was I would of had a bit of fun.
sucks though, they wont let you have a fire exstinquisher yet they let you make potentially lethal projectile accelleratting devices.

And i guess you really did change your name

I go dumpster diving every sunday (monday morning = trash day) and lately have only gotten an old back support from an old weight lifting bench, a couple traffic cones, and a bag full of rail road spikes. I will tell you i have had some pretty neat finds in my day though...

like a year ago i found like 10ft of 1.25" sch40 pvc pipe and got a whole weight bench. and i also got a wagon to haul it all in lol. Sunday's commin up....

Garage sales are also good, I have mad skills at talking down the prices lol. (sad puppy eyes)

well, i don't really explore dumpsters, just the stuff at the end of peoples driveways...

I asked my dad and he suggested DDing at colleges a few weeks before graduation time. They usually throw out a lotta good stuff because of "out with the old, in with the new"..literally.

So I'll have to try that, and maybe hit some dumpsters on the way

Good idea about the collage thing I might try that too.

And any ideas on what to do with the fire extinqusher

Maybe you could make a high pressure pneumatic burst disk gun or piston valver.

The problem is that the flow would be constricted by the 1in porting

Although the burst disk idea appeals a bit

Dang no dirty jokes huh, seriously, I found a garden hoe that was busted one time and I made a really cool three bladed push dagger out of it. 8)

The three spikes fit perfectly between my fingers and I just sharpened it up and wrapped black shoe string around the palm part.
Also it fits on my belt by hooking one blade on outside and two on the inside. (if I ever wanted to carry it).

There are some other items I always tend to grab if someone throws them out like lamps.

Almost every lamp has a type pipe inside to run the power cord through
They're seamed but are threaded at the ends and are about 3/8"OD
and about .27? ID so they can be sleaved into a 1/2" OD hollow pipe sold at home depot and probably other hardware stores and a 1/4"ID brass pipe from hobby shop fits inside. Been saving those forever and recently noticed they sell them for cheap in the lamp section.
The threads fit the output of a standard blow nozzle too!!!

I used a short piece of one to mod a valve and another to build an extra barrel for something I plan to post soon.

BTW Another thing I snatch up are old umbrellas to build little parachutes out of.

Best thing I find a lot is gold or money though just laying on the ground!!!
