im still new to the whole thing and i have been on all day just reading and i have learned so much it is carzy.

this weekend im going to make a smple combustion cannon and what i better a bbq lighter or a lantern lighter????

Even though 90% of the spudders on this forum would say bbq ignitor Im going to have to say the flint type. The are cheaper, work more reliably, and doesnt look like a rats nest.

Though you really should search before making a post like this.

I agree.

Flints create sparks which actually fly out of the "box"

BBQ igniters are great, but inconsistent, even though i've never used a lantern lighter, i'd choose one over a BBQ.

Lantern lighters create a hot and huge spark but are a pain to operate in context of a handheld spud gun. You have to dedicate one hand to spinning the lighter which means it's not available to help hold the gun up.

It's not a problem of course if the gun is on a mount.

I'm new to the forum but i have some expirience in bbq igniters not flint. I'd say bbq only cause i know more about them but thats no help most likely to you.

me thinks BBQ. maybe its inconsistent, BUT you can use it as a remote ignition or as a trigger, as opposed to a flint.


but yeah, its my personal opinion only.

If you use a flint lighter just make sure it is easy to get to and replace the flint, I go through them a lot on my basic combustion. good luck!

I hope they know each other personally... otherwise its less than tasteful and uncalled for.

On topic, I know lantern sparkers may be cheaper and a tad easier to install, but a bbq ignitor is worth it. Has anyone actually had one not work? You don't have to change flints, and its easier to mount in a more ergonominc manner...

They get quite unreliable and the electrodes are a b|tch to clean when they get gummed up with deodorant/hairspray

Fair enough, never bothered with aerosols... never had one not spark though, guess I've been lucky...

Oh yeah they spark for a life time, it's when they gum up they stop sparking.
