to mod or not to mod

last weekend was my birthday so with the money i got i want to make a pneumatic cannon with a sprinkler valve

now i have one question when it comes to the sprinkler valves.

would it be better to mod it using a 3/4 npt nipple for a blow gun or leave the electric triggering system and use that with a battery set up?

What I do is use a 1/4" nipple in the blowgun, and thread the other end in. It is MUCH more effective than the electronic trigger! Solenoid valves can open 5 times faster when using a blowgun!

I hope you mean "sprinkler valves" because the Solenoid is the electronic device itself (black and about the size of a golf ball), and not the whole valve.

Real good name you have for the topic there, I suggest an edit so it's a little more specific.

I just refer to them as solenoid valves because that's how they are meant to operate.

True, but it's not what they actually are, as far as there literal term/name. But that's besides the point...

High jacking-mode....OFF

Umm...wrong.

they are solenoid valves as they operate off a solenoid. take a look at link below and search solenoid valve on google.

And OP yes you are definitely better off to mod your valve to save you money in the long run and for a great power increase.

Actually... To add my two cents, The 'Solenoid Valves' or 'Sprinkler Valves' are diaphragm valves. The solenoid is the pilot for the diaphragm. I may be wrong here (I did a little research so I dont think so) but as far as I know the valves dont get pulled open by the solenoid, the solenoid pilots the diaphragm valve.

we know this, that is why you can mod them in a way that we do

the solenoid unblocks a hole that releases air on top of the diapragm just the blowgun does it faster

exactly (I thought I was right about that) But saying they are solenoid valves even with no solenoid is wrong, they are infact diaphragm valves.

*buts out*

Definatly modify it. Or you caould not modify it and see how it works out. Then when you want more power get a blowgun and modify it. That way you get to try out both of the methods for yourself.

you will be amased at the power differentce between a modded valve and a stock valve

I know I was :P
