I have had lots of trouble finding a sprinkler valve, from hardware store workers getting immensely confused to other workers thinking I'm stupid or something. I have considered buying one from BCArms, but I feel it's kind of a "cop-out" move to buy one pre-assembled, to me assembling it is one of the most fun parts of it - similar to buying a pre-assembled potato gun as opposed to making one, almost.

Is there a more commonly known name than "sprinkler valve"? Would I have more luck at a gardening store as opposed to a hardware store? Are there common PVC fittings that will fit it (IE a 1" Male thread adapter)?



P.S. Teflon Tape is awesome.

Assuming you're in the US, Lowe's and Home Depot both carry them. You've got some pretty lame hardware workers if they don't know what a sprinkler valve is. Are you sure you're asking them for the right thing? Print a picture of one and take it in to them.

They should be in the general vicinity of the plumbing aisles...try a different hardware person.

They're also known as solenoid valve/irrigation valves.

They have a solenoid and are used for irrigation applications involving pressurized water. Sprinkler valve is a name given to them by their common practice, a valve for a sprinkler system.

You could mail bcarms (or PM BCpneumatics) to ask him if he could ship you an unmodded sprinkler + blowgun. Then you can do it yourself.

Just order it online from a hardware store. Google "Sprinkler Valve".

The threads on the ports of the valve are standardized, and will fit pretty much any equally sized steel/PVC/ABS male threaded adapter.

Or, you can get a solvent adapter one, which has no threads. You save a couple bucks on fittings, and you don't have to fuss with teflon tape or anything. Home Depot has them (in my area) in an isle across from the plumbing isle but a little to the side. If you open up the box and look at it (like I did the first time, and yes they will let you do that) you may be a little confused about how it works. Don't worry about it, it will work. Also, don't worry about what voltage to use or how to hook it up if you want to use electronics or a button. Any battery will work fine.

Illinois. I've checked 6 stores - 1 gardening specialty, 1 home depot, and 4 True Value-endorsed stores. They all think I'm stupid or they're just like "why the hell would we carry that?" And the hardware store that is like 1 block away from my house wouldn't even let me place an order for it!!

Is the one at the bottom-left of this page good? Is the bleeder a problem and if so is it something that can be worked around?

I have not seen that particular one before! But I would imagine that all valves are moddable! Or you could just run it off of the silenoid..

I am shocked that the Depot didn't have one in there sprinkler stuff!! Sometimes it is better to dig through a store's stuff than to ask for help..
