I am going to paint my cannon within the next week or so. After looking closely at the piping I have noticed that there are areas that have excess plastic due to the mold that the pvc was created from. I was curious if I could sand these away and still spray paint the pvc using Krylon Fusion without the whole primer/complete sand process. The can says skip that whole process but I dont know if thats assuming the surface is very smooth to begin with. Can somebody shed some light on my problem? I'd like to sand some of the manufactor's labels off the piping as well, but once again avoid having to primer hehe. Let me know if this will be fine! Thanks

I think the whole idea behind Krylon Fusion is that it cements itself to the plastic in a similar way PVC cement connects two pipes. So no, sanding wouldn't make a big difference.

You should sand the entire surface to be painted. So, no problem sanding off the flashing.

After sanding (you can also use a green "scotch Bright" pad) you should wash the PVC well with liquid dish soap.

I used Krylon Fusion on my last cannon, and I didn't need to sand or anything. It worked great! Sanding can't hurt, though. (Unless it's thinwall PVC)

Sanding will allow the paint to cling much tougher than if you don't sand...nothing terribly aggressive, just knock the gloss off. Also Jimmy's advice of washing with dish soap is also must.

Okay will do! I just wanted to sand off all these little plastic spurs that are left from when it was molded. But I was worried if I sanded it that I would have to primer it after.

My friend used the regular Krylon to paint his cannon, he did not sand or any thing and his gun looks supprisingly good. I my self would have thought that the paint would not stick well, so I usally sand with 400 -600 grit paper just to knock the gloss off.
