Is i possible to use a schrader valve core as a fill valve? If so, how would I go about mounting/filling it?
It looks like it wouldn't really self tap very well, so I'd have to mount it with epoxy, and I'm not sure if it ould attach to my stirrup pump either?

I'm looking to use it as more of an experimental valve, which I could use to pressurize something like a drinks bottle for a noisemaker, or something similar.

What advantage would you gain over using the whole schrader though?

The core breaks fairly easyly a whole sharder is stronger also you would still need some kind of tube around the core inorder to fill the chember. Best fill valv IMHO is a check valve and quick connect combo.

The real advantage for me is price! a valve core is 50p, but the whole thing isn't available separately in the UK, so it's ~£5 for an inner tube with it.
I use a bike pump so I can't really use quick connect fittings sadly.

Ok thee are two ways to get them for free:

1. Go dumpster diving
2. Get a long stick with a hook on it(commonly called a gaff i think) either self made or brought(make it your self) then go to a park with lots of junkies thieths and all the res tof it and have a look into one of the little duck ponds commonly found there, chances are you will find a bike, pull it out remove what you need or take it all home.

I like the second way but its sometimes difficult to find the bikes, i found a place now and have about 10bikes most of them i take what i need then melt down to ingots and use them when needed.

What you could do is just make the outer shell from pipe and a drop of super glue or self thread it, i think that might work the best for you.

I dumpster dive all the time - nothing appropriate I've found here, and fishing for bikes?! I'll pass on that oune, not many such parks around here.
I hadn't thought about that last option though - putting a normal schrader in a threaded pipe, then adding nuts and washers as appropriate would give me an ideal bolt on schrader.

That works out at less than 20p per valve, inclding postage!

I tried to ask for threaded schrader valves for Christmas, but no such luck.

You can also order em from BCarms. (with NPT 1/8" threads)

I have one from BCarms which I got in the summer, and it's great! Shame its $30 postage

Edit: almost too good to be true - found 10 for £3 - they will fit a schrader pump?

Almost all automotive tyre valves are schraders, they should fit fine.

How much pressure can a sharder take, i am having trouble finding quick connects and check valves in my country...

Yep, you should be able to walk into any tire store and buy a rubber mount Schrader for less than a buck. A decent tire store will usually also have metal threaded versions for use in truck tires.

Tire stems (Schrader valves) are supposed to be replaced every time the tire is replaced. A nice tire shop may well give you a couple dozen old valves for free.

I guess a fair number of posters live in areas that don't have tire stores.

My dad works at a car dealership where there is a garrage where they repair cars and such. I get shraders for free.
